I'm feeling stronger and fitter!
I've been contemplating starting running again soon. I ended up with a hip bursitis when I was running before, that has made me really cautious about going back to it. I had a steroid injection right in it, that was incredibly painful.

Taking a rest day today. My upper body is feeling the lactic acid. I'll probably just stretch later.

Today I decided to use the heavier weights, my arms are aching! I also thought I could do 30mins on the exercise bike after my workout, I managed 5mins before feeling lightheaded. Need to stay realistic

It's been a week and still no word from my trainer/sort-of-physiotherapist. I'm afraid to start on machines other than the elliptical or treadmill in case I hurt myself more D: Actually missing the gym

I went indoor climbing again this weekend. I had to take a couple weeks off. My fore arms built up lactic acid really fast, w/in the first hour. The odd part was that my recovery time was nil. Usually, my fore arms will hurt for 1-4 days after...hehe...I shit you not! This time, I was good the next day...no ice...nothing! This must mean, they are getting acclimated to the workout!!!

Past two weeks I haven't done anything as I've been off work, but generally I like to run 3k three times a week, and do light weights. I'm just working on getting fit rather than losing weight although the ultimate goal is to lose weight. I'd lose motivation if I didn't see the scale change though which is why I set myself a fitness goal first. Holy hell! If you ever see me running you better run too because something is definitely chasing me lol

I'm really pissed off with myself for my weekend indulgence! I did stick to working out. I did the shred on Monday even tho I was a bit hungover, Tuesday I did an hour on the exercise bike and I've just finished a shred this morning I had a bit of a weight gain from the stupid weekend. I plan to punish myself with lots of exercise and eating well to make up for it.

I've been told not to judge myself on weight alone. Muscle is heavier than fat. Judge yourself on how you feel. Are you stronger now? Can you endure more strenuous activity? Can you run further and feel good? Can you do 30 minutes of cardio w/o getting fully winded? Can you lift more or do more reps w/o fatigue? That sort of thing... When I played football in a "beer league"...most of our games were played while intoxicated...hehe...ain't ideal, but can be done! At least, you got to it and did it!!!

Yea I know the feeling.. I miss working out badddddd. I was an active martial artist a couple years ago walking at 170 and fighting at 155 but a bad shoulder injury and the subsequent depression that followed all but ruined my fitness level. Starting over from scratch with the risk of squandering a $14,000 shoulder is tough :/

Would a softer style, like Tai Chi be out of the question?

I have actually been book studying tai chi quan and qigong forms off and on for the past year but more for meditative purposes.. Plus when venturing into a new style I tend to geek out and try to sponge up as much history and knowledge as possible but it is something that interests me... Though it's a pretty stark contrast to my absolute favorite, muay Thai lol what styles have you trained?

chad , yeah finding a good style/Sifu is tough...and it's a bit costly as well in the long run. Throughout the years, I've moved here and there so I picked up what I could in each location. I wish I could have stuck with some of these in style and Sifu but it wasn't meant to be. The longest was 8 years, the shortest being a year...maybe less. I started in 1989 and practice what I retained from each. I do miss full contact sparing and competitions but I think I'm too old for that now...hehe. Lau Kune Do (Wing Chun, Hungar, Pau Kua, N. Shaolin) S.Shaolin (five animal styles; Tiger, Snake, Leopard, Crane, and Dragon) Tao Ga (mostly Chi Gong and variation on Tai Chi Chuan) Wing Chun (under Hawkins Cheung in Los Angeles) Southern Praying Mantis (under Sifu Morange, disciple of Gin Foon Mark) Shaolin (Shao-Lin Chuan, Tang Lang Chuan, Tai Chi Chuan, Ba Gua Chuan, Hsing I and Chin Na) My favorite being S. Praying Mantis, fits my stature and demeanor the best IMO.

jxbx hell yea man I LOOOOOOVE praying mantis style trapping! So fluid, fast, and super efficient.. No wasted motion at all! One of my Coworkers is well versed in southern shaolin. Wing chun is my all time favorite style (muay Thai/boran super close second) but alas, no schools anywhere close to me.. Closest is Raleigh NC but I have done A LOT of research.. Very awesome history as I'm sure you know. Damnit man you got me all gitty at work talking ACTUAL martial arts with someone other than a habitual Tapout shirt/fauxhawk fella! Lol
