I wanted to know the likely amount of dreads that seems like a decent amount to have.

I have under 30, that's good. Some folk have over 100, that's good too. It's an awkward one to answer. As long as it's not all dreaded into 1, that's good too. Obviously 50-100 dreads looks very different to 25-30. You probably don't want less than 20 if covering your whole head as they'll grow to be massive.

I've got 55 and hope some will combine in time... so I'll have fewer thicker ones... on average I think most keep theirs in the 50s range. I guess it really depends on if you want though. If ya want thick ones go less than 50 or thin ones.. greater than 50.

I have like 19 but then again half my head is shaved so that might be why I don't have a ton

I have 35ish and fine hair, but lots of it. I think it all depends on your hair type, and your head in general. And then it depends on how you section them when you start. Lot of variables, but it creates a diverse group of dread heads!

I think I started off with 80 odd pencil sized sections in fine straight hair. I have less now having removed some, and others joined together. As the others have said it's very much down to your hair type and how much you have.

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

I got 25 with an back undercut. There's no magic number that applies to everyone.

I started with 94, I ***thought*** I wanted super thin dreads, now I have 85 or so, and still combining super puny ones, 😄

I have 42... sort of wish I had more... some of them are a little too thick in my opinion. The kiddo's got 22... but he only has a dreadhawk, and his head is a bit smaller than mine, like his sectioning better! Guess it is all a matter of what you like.

130 over here, give or take, and they're not even all that skinny (I did keep them on the small side, but I can tell they're going to be on the low end of mid-line when they're 'finished'... like sharpie to cigar in range is what I anticipate). but I have rather thick hair. it definitely depends on that and aesthetic preference. no rules round here

I have somewhere between 20-25 with new ones forming now there is no set number of dreads to have go with what make you comfortable. I have a dread hawk the sides an back or both shaved just a top an everyone thay I ran into is like man I love the hair

As above, it really comes down to the size of the dreads you want. I have about 50, looking to start my dreads over and get over 100.
