@cocodeleche cocodeleche are those sulfates free and whatnot for dreads? Cuz I'd like to look into this as a backup if they are at both Sallys and Walmart. Sallys told me the only dread products they have were the Jamaican lime and something else. Well, the locking spray has lots of harsh chemicals and irritated my hands in the winter...anyway, hmm curious about Shea Moisture tho. Did someone recommend it to you or...? Ness, I think you and I are both on this quest to find a good moisturizing routine. I am currently trying Dollylocks brand refreshing spray and oils. Started with oils, only a few drops (which it might be good to try James s suggestion...if I ever muster the drive to get it together...although I'd need rosemary oil) anyway, no I was just putting them on the dreads after shower, and/or using avocado oil (olive or coconut work fine too) on scalp and any super dry hair like hour or two before shower (sorry if this is a repeat). Thing is...I don't think I even needed that much. Finally tried the refreshing spray day before yesterday and it felt good. Just don't get too generous with it either, but make sure you do get all over. Feels nice! So yeah. With new dreads, you may not even need it. I started in winter though and I was very dry with the dread safe shampoo, so I needed something...still been working on it. but I think I am figuring out what works for me. Let's see how things go for the both of us in the next few months! omg! Just read this now. Last job made you take the old set out?! That aint right!

Yes, it is sulfate and paraben free! At least, the one I use is. I have the African Black Soap shampoo. Well, I was familiar with the products because I worked at a Sally's for a long time, and my husband saw online where someone said they used that specific one on their dreads. But if you look at the ingredients, most of their products look safe! No harsh chemicals, no perfumes.. I'd give it a shot!

It's normal to have the hair at the roots loose an inch or so . That's how they hang, otherwise they'd stick up all the time and pull on your scalp. Let your hair loose as much as possible you don't need to protect it, the more crazy your hair goes at this stage the better they'll eventually tighten up into solid dreads. They look fine. Your hair will find its balance over time. I used Dr B at first but it was not good for me, as it is a liquid soap rather than a shampoo it reacted with the hard water I had and turned into horrible sticky gloop that's hard to rinse out your hair. Most health food type shops have a good range of more natural organic shampoos without loads of ingredients. Neutrogena t-gel/sal is pretty good with dreads from regular shops but it might dry your hair out a bit. I usually make my own shampoo from bi carbonate of soda, a little sea salt and some Rosemary or tea tree oil mixed in a big bottle of water. It really cleans things well. They look great, you don't need to worry about a thing. Less is more. Thank you so much for all of the advice + wisdom !!!!!! 🙏🏾 Appreciated . Will definitely be trying the DIY shampoo as I am a DIY / all things natural lover .

Looking good. They look well on the way. I'll echo the most common bit of advice I've received from many: give them time and don't stress much, they sort themselves out. Thanks Note taken + appreciated

They look so perfect on you. You are absolutely stunning, too! As for a good healthy, vegan shampoo, I really like Shea Moisture products. Wal-Mart and Sally's carry it. It's a little pricey (for me) but smells great and leaves my hair feeling super clean and soft. I'm excited to see your progress! Thank you ! I enjoy your timeline as well . I think your locs look great 2 cant wait to see em mature along w/ mine . I will give shea moisture a try now that I know it's safe , good looking out !

Appreciate all of the information from experience thank you . My hair has always been very hard to hold moisture in . I have curly mixed hair 3b texture I would Use leave in conditioner but not with the locs as I'm avoiding conditioning . Going to try the DIY shampoo shared above sounds great and just continue with coconut oil Will post here for all thank you

looks like some great progress there! (was trying to figure out how long it's been...) You'll probably be noticing the shrinkage pretty soon, if you haven't already. fun fun! And glad to hear you're doing better. Keep resting when you can! Take care!

Bad hair day lol So I started august 17th by taking my hair out of braids , free forming until august 30th , then sectioning / twist + ripping / washing + retwisting on my own since then with just water after a wash (1x a week) with this shampoo Or only organic virgin coconut oil It doesn't hold very well and my roots tend to be messy / frizzy + aren't locking up yet ( have noticed knotting going farther up closer to the roots ) so continue practicing patience maybe? Or a vegan alternative to wax ? Was trying to avoid crochet as well so only did twist and rip once and palm roll from there. Any other product free maintenance tips ? I've heard of people retwist using honey but i wouldn't because a lot of lint I think . Anyways just a small update as I've been away will post moor Peace +++ prosperity to all
