Just curious......was there a particular person (either famous, in your daily life, or maybe a chance meeting with a stranger) that inspired you to finally go ahead and start your locs? Maybe you'd been thinking about it for years and seeing someone or something finally made you decide "Today is the day I do it!" Anything in particular that tipped you over into the action of DOING instead of thinking about it?
I'll start.....I saw a lovely series of black and white photos of Ani Difranco from back when she had shoulder-length dreads......she has a smile on her face and a winter coat and hat and I saw it and thought "That's it! That's what I feel like inside! I am DOING it NOW!" I had been saving pictures of people with dreads on my Pinterest page for 2 years but something about that photo just made me actually DO it. Let me see if I can find it.......

I was thinking upon it for well over 6 years. A new person at my job came in and she had rainbow colored neglect dreads they are lovely my job doesn't have a dress code so I went all in. I'm now 5 months in and couldn't be happier.

Honestly I guess mine would be Bob Marley and my almost unhealthy infatuation with any and all things costal/oceanic... Always been that way ever since I can remember and I suppose the locks are an extension of that

This is my dread-spiration. I've had my hair this colour of red for over 10 years now and when I finally found out I can still dye my hair with dreads I found this pic and then off I went

I think I was around 10 years old that I decided one day I will have dreads. I grew up listening to Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Gregory Isaacs, Black Uhuru etc. That is where the fascination stemmed from, im now 30 years old and 19 months into my neglect journey and I wish I had started them years ago.

When I started, I just wanted my hair long but in order to do that, it was best to finger comb my hair. Doing so led naturally to dreads. Inspiration at the time was Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction.

my university friend and/or her roommate was a huge Anni fan.Honestly, i didn't know her music, but that was first caucasian brunette female celebrity that i saw with dreads and still is the only one fitting all those to this day! (im excited to see the female influences here on this thread.) Mine were pretty much male, all tho i did know OF one BLONDE girl dread head at the uni. These were all yeeeeaaarrss ago though. The one who got me actually dreading was my new favorite celebrity/"anti-celebrity" (because he's so down to earth) is ....Frank Iero. The fact that he could go from dreadhead to beautiful brunette straight hair again, convinced me this was reversible, if need be. (ok ok, he shaved them off but i was already convinced! plus, at least the new growth i knew would still be good...like hair dying, right?) With dreads (and this next one reminds me of my old friend-blonde/style) And after ok, done now. ^^

Although I have never been able to get my dreads the same size as hers, my muse is Lisa Bonet. I love that she can keep her curls and rocks dreads at the same time! And, to be perfectly honest if not a bit corny, there was a guy in high school ages ago that said I would look great with dreads which led to my first set. Also, I am a fiber arts and fabric person, so felting my hair seemed only natural. (Any thoughts on this morri ?)

Geezus that's a LOT of hair! Beautiful, though I'd absolutely hate to have to keep up with all of it lol
