Well, I guess 'curly dreads'would be more accurate. Just wish I could get them on my head!

Although I have never been able to get my dreads the same size as hers, my muse is Lisa Bonet. I love that she can keep her curls and rocks dreads at the same time! And, to be perfectly honest if not a bit corny, there was a guy in high school ages ago that said I would look great with dreads which led to my first set. Also, I am a fiber arts and fabric person, so felting my hair seemed only natural. (Any thoughts on this morri ?) I'm a fiber artist and spinner too and I am psyched someone else here is too! It does make sense we extend the art to our heads! ?

my university friend and/or her roommate was a huge Anni fan.Honestly, i didn't know her music, but that was first caucasian brunette female celebrity that i saw with dreads and still is the only one fitting all those to this day! (im excited to see the female influences here on this thread.) Mine were pretty much male, all tho i did know OF one BLONDE girl dread head at the uni. These were all yeeeeaaarrss ago though. The one who got me actually dreading was my new favorite celebrity/"anti-celebrity" (because he's so down to earth) is ....Frank Iero. The fact that he could go from dreadhead to beautiful brunette straight hair again, convinced me this was reversible, if need be. (ok ok, he shaved them off but i was already convinced! plus, at least the new growth i knew would still be good...like hair dying, right?) With dreads (and this next one reminds me of my old friend-blonde/style) And after ok, done now. ^^ Awesome! You are right.....now that I think about it, Ani may have been the first brunette Caucasian woman I saw with dreads! There is this awesome video on-line of her from that era reading her poem "Coming Up" and I think it is amazing.......

thanks purplehaze! (oh daze? ) Honestly, I saw one video where she says why you should NOT have dreads and I ran the other way. haha But I seriously have to thank you for mentioning her again, because I found some helpful videos this morning...and yeah, she's alright. Amazing what she can do with that hoop...among other things!!! And...yeah of course, nice set!

Well I got into reggae and Bob Marley back when I was around 12 years old so that set the seed. Aforementioned Sky Wartooth was also big inspiration for me: Then there was this forum in general, there were and are so many beautiful timelines. Three that especially inspired me in the old forums were Carlenergy and another two people whose names I can't remember for sure. I think the other one was Holly, she had glorious henna red locks. Then there was a person with green locks, I think her nick was fairybunny? I'm embarrassed I'm so bad with names... The thing that really pushed me to finally do it was my then boyfriend's sister who had hip length locks back then and also made dreadlocks for people - she also made mine. I found Meowjuana's channel after I had gotten my locks and she helped me a lot through the journey. As did this forum.

actually, I probably don't have any xD when I went to secondary school, I just started searching photos on the Internet and staring when guys on the street wore dreads connecting it with advice from my best friend probably inspired me to grow my hair and to keep it in form of dreads

Really like sky wartooth...whoever that is Ok, wrapping this up here but exactly one year ago yesterday (or few days before)... twistroot, I first truly saw my dl muse....and it was this look here and not long after, i met lisabja hey lisa, check out the video in "song that takes you back" (in games section) i am "awake and un...afraid" (oh, what is the unashamed lyric?...uh oh! Forgetting already! ) how about "if im so wrong how come youre listening all night long"... or?.. "how could you cry for me cause i dont feel bad about it..." "unapolegetic apathy!" what I meant to say was that I am not ashamed to be a fan. There! , so long and goodnight!

Also a huge Ani fan (saw her recently at a small local venue, second time I've had the privilege!), I first wanted dreads when I was initially getting into her music and saw her on the cover of SPIN magazine from August 1997, the year prior. In it she has short spiky blue/green/yellowy dreads. I had already started dying my hair funky colors, but for some reason dreads were, for my parents, out of the question.
Fast forward 16 years and I go on a study abroad trip to New Zealand during (their) fall. I had past-butt-cheek-length hair, and since I was going to study eco-villages and would be spending at least two weeks out in the pickers sleeping in a shack and shitting in a hole I figured it would be best to keep my hair in small braids the whole time to minimize maintenance. I loved how effortless it was and it prompted me to re-research dreads when I got home. I was very attached to my long hair at that point however, and not down with the idea of having to shave my head should something go terribly awry in this new hair experiment; as soon as I discovered that notion was a myth, I did it.
Despite experiencing probably the most drastic shrinkage of anyone I've seen photos of, I doubt I'll ever look back.
Yay for Ani inspiration ^_^
