Hilarious yet insightful thread! Love it!
Have to participate! We have the dopest vernacular and slang(e) (snakes)! So awesome to be bilingual, makes for serious funniez!
We have quite a list and most are in Afrikaans or Zulu or "coloured" such as "aweh" - pronounced aaah-weh, meaning cool. The more stretched out and emphasized the more awesome lol...
"kak" is a fave - maybe not exactly slang but everyone loves the word...means shit in Afrikaans.
Uhm, "pooza" is also a normal word in Zulu but used throughout cultures, means boozing or drinking. For instance "lets pooza" or "its pooza Thursday" (my favourite day of the week).
"skyf" is kinda street referring to a cig or "pass the cigarette" or "here's a drag of the cigarette". Used to refer to other smokables too...
Gwaai is Zulu for cigarette too. Eg; "skyf gwaai" - "here's/pass the fag"
"naai" a douchebag, could refer to intercourse, or could mean "no", depending on context. For example "jou naai" - "you fuck", "naaiers" - fuckers, "naai my bru" - no my bro
We also have a very vulgar term "jou ma se poes", sometimes shortened to "jou ma", directly translated means "your mother's vagina" and is considered very offensive by most but we use it as a joke...because conservative peeps get so upset about it, lol! Die antwoord actually have a song titled "jou ma se poes in n vispaste jar" kaaaaak funny my bru.
My bru is slangy for "my brother", used in a similar context to "dude". Its derived from"Broer" - brother, in Afrikaans.
Bra, brayam, brutjie, ou and china are all variations of the above, perhaps used more affectionately at times. Uhm, babbelas, shortened as babbie, describes a hangover. "Moerse babbie" - huge ass hangover.
Dagga, refers to cannabis. Also referred to as bobbejaan twak, which means "baboon tobacco". LOL
Doos, means box in kind of old Afrikaans, but we use it as a translation of cunt.
Aitsa - an exclamation used for something cool. "Lekker" is similar in context, directly translated means yummy or nice. One of the best Afrikaans words along with kak 😝
Shot - something like saying cheers as thank you or got it. Shap is another similar term, I prefer the latter. Shot is more English I guess...
Sjoe got so many awesome slang terms and kak...will have to post more as I member!
Btw, "sjoe" is also kind of an exclamation...sort of like "wow" 😊
Must say the coloured slang is the best! These peeps are so creative they should all be writers and lyricists! Best of both worlds eksê!
Oh ja and "eksê", means "i say" but is used as an emphasis I guess...
Brother from another mother - brutjie from another coochie - china from another vagina - sister from another mister --- all refer to close-as-fuck friends 😁
Lekker man lekker 😝 cheers neh
