I think a lot of people can have that experience of reading. I still do now occasionally. My mind will start to wonder but my eyes will still scan the words and so I'll get to the end of a page and realise I've no idea what I just read. It think it's normal.... for me it (mostly) went away when I started to read more fiction and then I have the thing I've mentioned of having a 'director' in my head and seeing the story like a movie in my mind. That seems to keep me more locked in.
To be honest, I love books on philosophy etc but I struggle to read them these days. I'd say I'm really into it at the start but get bored halfway through and it becomes a chore. So I fulfil that interest with podcasts that talk about that stuff now, instead, otherwise I have the same issue you mention.

At the moment reading "interview with a vampire" "picture of dorian gray" and "i robot". I just finished the first "dark tower" book. I tend to read multiple books at once and go back and forth for whatever mood I'm in.

I read a short story by Gillian Flynn which I really liked and made me laugh so I picked up a copy of Gone Girl today.... even though I'm sure the tone is very different ha. I've not seen the movie but I've heard the soundtrack, what with Reznor's involvement.

I tend to read multiple books at once and go back and forth for whatever mood I'm in. I've read Interview and the Dark Tower book It's funny, all my friends who love the DT series always say that the first book is something you just have to get through to get into the series but I enjoyed it. I read multiple books at the same time, too, although I tend to do different genres. For example I'll read fiction and psychology or true crime at the same time... my reading style is that I see the stories playing out in my head like a movie that my mind's eye is directing (complete with casting actors as the characters!) and I find that if I read more than fiction at a time I get my mental images mixed up.

That's funny, I enjoyed the first dt book as well. 😄 I'm assuming they will get a little faster paced but that's to be expected.
And I should probably switch up genre's as well. That's a good idea. I read the same way as you. Visualizing the story with a cast and all. Last night I picked up i robot and was terribly confused why scientist were telling a little girl she needed to die. Until I realzed I had interview with a vampire in my hand 😊 and they were not scientist at all.

I'm going a little easier on reading now, until the rest of the year, as this is my 24th book so I'll have hit my target of two a month. Which is good because I'm reading IT and that's a beast so I can go through it a little more leisurely.

I recently bought a kobo, and have been devouring books at a couple per week. Currently reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, a beast of a book (1k pages) set in 1984, kinda mystery, with some weirdness and am enjoying it ^^

I started reading Stargazing by Peter Hill recently. It's about his time in the 1970s as a lighthouse keeper on the north west Scottish coast. I spent a lot of time in the Highlands in the past so some of it feels quite familiar and nostalgic. It's proving funnier than I had anticipated too.

Reading The Blade Artist by Irvine Welsh.
Any Trainspotting fans will dig this.
Been a fan of Irvine Welsh for years after watching the film Trainspotting, then reading the book and the followup Porno.
Dark twisted shit that may make you laugh.....or cry.

Let's revive this shall we? I was not actively reading the last time this was going, but have since finished everything written by Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth series being his most well known), and everything related to the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. At the moment I'm reading Wheel of Time #2, and The Stand. I bounce between books/genres when I can't focus, so I have a few others started, but won't really get into them til I've finished these.

I’m currently reading the Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah Maas, I’m up to the 3rd book. Also recently read Fourth Wing and Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros. Highly recommend Bride by Ali Hazelwood as well!
