I wrote a lot of posts on here when my dreads were young - didn't think I'd write a help thing again! So basically, my dreads are two and a half years old. The original length is still there, and was bleached a little. This length is completely solid and stiff. However, all the brown length thats grown in is extremely soft. I know that this is to be expected from the contrast between forced knots/bleached and natural, but all my new growth, which is very long by now, I'm able to just about work my long guitarist nails through and roll between my fingers. Is this normal? If not, is there a way to sort it other than sea-salt? Here's a pic from the two year mark: Cheers!

soapbarbob, Dreads look grand!! I got lost at guitarist and long nails...starting thinking of Segovia, Romero, Bach, Carulli and Villa-Lobos, ...hehe...anyhow, I think you're wondering why you can poke through one part of your dread and not the other? If so, I think it's normal. My tips can be solid like rocks while the dread closest to my scalp may not actually be fused in yet.

My ends are rock hard but my new growth is super pliable too. I think its just a thing that happens!
