What does everyone do to keep their dreads happy? I live in Colorado where it is very dry, and have found my dreads need extra moisturizing. So far I have been using aloe and/or coconut oil after washing. What is your routine?

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

rkymtnjoy, good question. It can get dry where I'm at in California when winds from the desert kick up. I never do anything in particular for them during that time though. For the most part, I think people avoid leaving anything in their dreads hence the call for all the residue-free products. I have never tried, but I guess after they are maturely locked, one could go back to using some sort of conditioner.

My dreads just soak up the coconut oil! A little goes a long way, but it never feels heavy. Aloe can get a little flaky though. I quickly palm roll with either when my dreads are half dry. They still feel dry by the next wash though.

how do you know when enough is enough? As with any oil a little goes a very long way. For coconut oil, I use just enough to make my hands feel lightly greasy, palm roll a few dreads, and repeat. If you want to try it, start with a tiny amount and see how it feels.
