Alright so, I've been obsessing over the possibility that my dreads will never be satisfactory. I'm just about to come up on two months and I know I am SO early in the dread game but I cant seem to find that "they will get there" confidence. Right now my hair is absolutely gastly. Here's my ranting issues and concerns.. Please sympathize & advise •So many loose hairs along the dreads. Plus, new growth all over my head.. I rarely leave the house without it in a headband and tied up. I dont want to mess with them but i also want those hairs(at least most of them) to join the dang dreading party. •I fear that wearing them pushed back and/or tied up so much is going to damage them(i try to keep them down at home) •my hair was super fine before dreading (especially at the ends)so toward the bottom of the dreads the t'n'r was nearly impossible.. The bottom portion of my dreads are so tightly done and thinly knotted that the hair feels "hard and stiff" and I am worried about it not dreading • the underneath dreads(maybe about a third of the bottom hair) are starting to dread nicely., getting that dread look and "wooly".. But only the part close to the root (is this the natural process?) •(see above bullet point) why are the dreads on top not doing thier thing? Is there anything i can do to help them along? •also the top half of my head was done sort of rushing because I was ansy to be finished.. So you can really see the "braiding" type effect instead of the knotting and matting effect like some of my bottom dreads.. Will they dread up in time? Oh my gosh... Dread anxieties to THE MAX. Fuck Help. Ha

New growth all over is probably hairs that shed away into your dread, now that growth u see needs to find somewhere, loose hair near the root grows then sheds into that section. IMO having dreads up is OK in moderation. All I can add really. If you feel down look at my timeline nothing went as planned but it's all state of mind te will work things out.

Had I done my whole head, I mightve been facing the same issues you guys have. Although, I DO have some "upper" dreads! Im sure everyone here will say it takes time, but in my experince, you can try some palmrolling (especislly good after shower, but then again after drying) Im afraid, from what ive seen that the mess is just natural. You can try as ive suggested, you can find some good videos from LazyDreads I thin 3 months was when I started feeling confident mine looked real, but I didn't let them go so naturally, so you might expect like 8 months or more! hope this helps and you can stick it out! you can wait for more qualified folks to answer as well, but patience patience patience will most likely be a common theme.

Thanks for the input. I do some palm rolling after showering and i know that new growth will always be there.. Just wondering if it just keeps growing freely? Or should I weave it in? Also i know time will do wonders.. I am just in that awkward stage right now i think. And it's quite bothersome lol

She i s my lower left nape one, and fatish, though good size. Anyway, yes and now others like "g" have starting to join in too (fyi, no pictures but yes i have that) you can try to crochet them in, but i really havent had success there ...anymore, cuz they have tightened. Would probably do more damage than help.

New growth will dread itself by tangling to a close dread or if there's more hairs it will make a brand new dread.

The easiest way to dread is to let it go, the hardest way to dread is to let it go. Which path you choose is up to you

Hey! Just to let you know that your hair at two months will bare very little resemblence to how it will at, say, one year so there's no reason to worry if they're not looking like you want them to, yet. It's also normal for the hair nearer the root to dread up first (not counting the inch or so of loose hair that people usually have from the scalp) as the hair at the ends is more easily loosened. And it's common for certain parts of the head to dread up faster than others, so no need to worry..... it will all dread up eventually. If you've not seen it, I'd recommend watching @lazydread's communal timeline (a lot of the pics came from this community) as it will give you a sense of what dreads usually look like at certain stages and how drastically they can change.

My hair was the exact same way at 2 months don't worry! I had to wear my hair up a lot for work and I thought it was messing up my dreads but now they are at 9 months and they are fine. The only thing that will give you the dreads you want is time I promise!

My hair at 2 months (ish) and at 11 months. It just takes time. I had mine tied up and stuck in a hat at work during the messy stage too, and at the moment I keep them tied back 90% of the time during the day or when I'm too warm. Don't panic, you'll get there too
