Okay guys and girls. I really really hate to post this thread but im going to have to come to terms with the fact that im losing locks, seeing as you all helped to create the beautiful ropes i currently bestow on my head (I was Descendants on DT 1.0) im hoping one or many of you can help. My dreads are great. I absolutely love them. Some are thick some are thin. Some are both. Some resemble tree roots and some do not; however im struggling with a few dreads. The roots on them are at least an eighth smaller than the actual dread itself; now im very aware most dreads have a thin roots, but these guys are seriously thin in comparison to the full girth of most of my dreads and I have lost a couple already (they were only young but still). I'm just wondering how I can aid the situation? I've threaded a ton of loose hair into the base of the root, is it now a waiting game? If my front dread drops I'm going to look an absolute tosser. It seems pretty stable. I'm just really worried! Thanks xx

Can you combine the thin ones together or combine into a thicker dread next to it? Or maybe resection that area to make two sturdy ones?

Can't say 100% without seeing it, but many of my roots were thin at one point and then suddenly dreaded thickly, then other's would get thin and so on. unless they are in danger of actually falling off your head I wouldn't be too worried. Make sure your roots are not too oily.

I've never found that sewing loose hair into the root has been effective, however - if you can - combining the dread with a neighbour will do the job. As Danzia suggested, the easiest method is just to poke the dread with a thin root through the root of a neighbour. Logically, I don't really know how it works but I've seen 100% success rate with this method.
The combined locks will grow from the root in a Y shape but your thickness problem should be helped.

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

I got one with really thin roots and it's ready to fall off. I'm gonna try what Paul suggests. I've had a few fall off over the years. It ain't so bad, the hair will still be there...just not in dread form

Ok, I don't know if mine are anywhere near worrying about, but the thought of the roots thinning and falling out has crossed my mind (especially having so few, I'd hate to lose any), so...is there like a video for what you described Dreadlocktruth , (Paul, is it? just want to be sure I didn't miss something) because I didn't quite get it. Do you actually thread hair from somewhere, like a lose strand, or do you just sortof poke the two dreads together? And is this at the roots or the ends or the middle (I think it'd be too difficult to do this on the dreaded parts right?) The Y thing you described. THAT part I understood. haha it happened to me. I swear I had separated these two (ok, well one dread and one straight strand), but somehow they made their way back together the next day, in that Y shape! hehe edit: actually the Y part was literally a Y. they joined at the bottom. Oh but now they are all together. Not sure if two full dreads do this...that would be like a congo right? Those do eventually become one right or no?

This is happening to a friend of mine who has had her locks for a little over two years. She thinks it might be attributed to having to keep her hair tied back constantly for work. If anyone has some advice on things that work to save the dread through their own experience that would be awesome. I'd love to relay some tips to her...I am rather partial to her locks especially since I did them haha. No fault in how they were done, since I did many of my own and they a just fine :/
