Hi I'm growing my Mohawk and intend on turning it in to a dreadhawk. Can anyone give me some basic information on how to start , eg how long it should be? Could I leave it to grow to my desired length first before starting them or can they be started earlier at 10 inches or so? If I started them early do they grow out? And how do you turn the new growth in to locks? What would be the best method for quite thick dreads. I've attached a few pics of what kind of look I'm after. Also how is the blue achieved is it dye or is something stiched in on some coloured dreads. Ideally the 2nd pic is what I'm looking for. Thank you

the 1st pic is synthetic dreads. the second pic is just bleached hair and a blueish green dye, manic panic will have something close to it or you can mix colors to get your exact shade.
what method were you planning on using for your dreads? If your going the more natural method like twist and rip or neglect, then your hair will dread on it's own. Take a look at time line's to see which method you prefer. I started mine neglect two years ago and have never done any maintenance and they turned out great. new growth dreads as it grows out.

Hi thank you for the reply . I was going to go with twist and rip method. Should the hair be bleached and coloured before attempting to start the dreads? I was just thinking surely the bleach couldn't be washed out properly and then damage the hair with it soaking in to dread?

You can bleach dreads, but you should only do it on dreads that have matured enough to take the vigorous washing that's required to wash the bleach out.
It's been said that hair that has been bleached or dyed beforehand will actually knot up better so best to do it first 😁
