Hey Guys any tips for keeping the dreads dry in the shower on non wash days? What methods do you guys use? When mine were brand new I just used a regular shower cap but they barely fit in then. As time went on I found someone on ETSY from Australia selling "dread" shower caps they are just super thin clear plastic shower caps.(may be the same ones knotty boy sells) i have been using them since but they start to get a bit of a smell and loose their elasticity at the head band over time,as any shower cap would. I have seem youtube videos of people cutting plastic grocery bags and using those. I know Lazy Dreads uses a tshirt or at least did. But i feel like my hair would still get wet some because the shirt would get soaked.

Pound shop shower cap, it's old so the elastic is gone which means it's massive!
Or I just put them in a bun and keep the shower low.

I put mine in a bun and direct the shower head. The nape of my neck usually gets a bit damp so I pat it dry.

I just tie it up in a bun, which is extra helpful if I'm taking a bath, as it means I get a pillow.

I actually looked at these awhile ago when I was looking into taking swimming lessons. I just thought it may be a little tight and hard to put on for everyday use. So you are a fan?

gingerdreadman , I actually looked at these awhile ago when I was looking into taking swimming lessons. I just thought it may be a little tight and hard to put on for everyday use. So you are a fan? Heh, I haven´t tried it yet. I have to dread my hair first, but yea. Preparing and stuff, but I think as more you practice with it. The faster you get it on. I don´t think it´s that hard to get on, and that says much. I´m just bad with doing fast things with my hands It will probably fit more comfortable over time too. And saw on ebay on some shower caps. No, just no. The cheaper and more permanent it is = the better.

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

I use the shower caps I can purchase at the local drug store. I get the largest they have and I usually get a new one every 6 to 8 months.

I just put mine up in a bun. My nape hair may get a tiny bit wet but it's no big deal.

It takes 3 hair bands to get it all up, still not long enough to get it all in one yet. I dont have a shower, just a bath so as long as dont lay down too far (altho I barely fit in the bath anyway) im all good.

Reporting in for an update about the Dreadshead swimming cap. I did use it with my salty rubbed hair today, and yea... It felt like it ripped off all my hair, then I read that you should use a dreadsock under it. To protect the hair, so ordered a bright orange one. So I can be orangy when my hair gets longer, outside of the shower

So I'm very late to this conversation but I'm throwing my 2 cents in anyway, have you ever seen bowl covers? they are giant shower caps for bowls instead of using plastic wrap. I personally just tie up my hair and if I need extra protection I use a shopping bag, but I see them (the covers) at the dollar stores all the time. Of course I would never want to wear these if I was actually swimming.

I pile mine on top of my head and then wrap a scarf around the whole mess and tie it up.
