Hello, my name is Fatimah and this is my second time around with locs. I'm 2 months in again. I wore locs for several years until I made a mistake and dyed my locs with black henna. Afterwards, I regretted it and was not able to remove the color so I ended up chopping off my locs completely in March 2016. I grew out my hair for a year and decided in April to get dreaded again. I currently wear my locs wrapped in individual box braids to compact them and hopefully dread them faster. I only use sea salt water & African black soap. Do you think that using box braids (and keeping the dreads together that way will help or hurt the dreading process? Thanks!

I've seen some braid dreads lock together. I had a three dread braid for 2 years and it never evolved, other than the root was a big dread, but the braids didn't join as one. That's cos they had no movement to tangle. But the roots will dread themselves great as they grow out. If that's ok.
