I'm finishing my degree this summer and have some huge changes in my life upcoming. Lately I've contemplated wether brushing out my 5.5 year old dreads should be part of that change. The thing is though that they are a part of my identity and make me feel unique. I believe I would regret it in the end, so instead of removing them I'm hoping for inspiration on ways to maybe change them.
Has anyone attempted to brush out enough to make bangs/fringes? Could I maybe dye them at home? Other ideas on how to get a makeover, hairstyle or otherwise? I'd love to hear your thoughts ^^

I started with a fringe then later let it grow out, but I regularly bleached and coloured it to detract from the mess at the back.
About a year ago I did take the top dreads out, so I have a bit of a layered effect going on with the loose hair and the remaining locks. It's been interesting, but I do miss them from time to time and contemplate letting them lock up again. I also kept the ones I took out in case I wanted to reattach them later on.
