This is my first post! Hello! ^-^/ I've had dreads since November 5th 2015 and wow I feel like it's the best thing I ever did for my hair. Loving how I look and feel with dreads! But today, ugh. Idk, it's like do my dreads hate me sometimes? When I made them I had really long hair. I can really see the shrinkage now. I had a couple of fake dreads made as well, so it's easy to see the difference in length between my natural dreads and the synthetic ones... But I've got to ask - does the shrinkage/zigzag come and go??? Today they are extremely wonky. I washed my hair yesterday and each time I wash them they curl up like crazy. Some dreads reach past my shoulders. I didn't expect this much shrinkage actually. I'm going to use noodles to demonstrate. Yup, noodles. My dreads on good days: Fairly straight and longMy dreads after water contact: Zigzaggy and lumpy
After a few days they look better again. And so it goes on, repeatedly. I like the natural waves in my dreads. But why do they go extreme when I wash them? Is it normal? (I use Dollylocks liquid shampoo I might add.) What can I do about the zigzags? If I leave them alone will they mature lumpy? The hair that has grown out since my dread adventure began has dreaded itself nicely. It looks more solid and mature and not zigzaggy.

Bonkers, zig zags and general crazy stuff is all good. It's the process of them knotting. You look back on it in fond memories later. Because it doesn't last. So enjoy the madness. Let it be, it will stop eventually. .

But crazy dreads are cool. Go zig-zags. They are a bonus.

Mine go through phases of being fairly straightish, followed by wiggly periods. I think it's just the constant process of knotting. Mine are almost six years old and still at it, though they're definitely mature now.

If I blow dry they are straight and if I air dry they are wonky - experiment with your drying methods!
