My dreads are almost a year old and the first 2 inches are pretty loose. They are killing me. You know the pain you get when a strand of hair is pulled tight? I keep getting these all over my head, and it's too sore to just ignore. There's always a few pulling and of I sort them out by pulling at them - or even desperately ripping at them - another 2 pops up.I unconsciously find myself tugging at my hair.
I am in agony tonight with all these pulling hairs and I know it sounds like a minor pain but it's horrible. I just want to cut them all off.
What the hell do I do?

So if they are loose at the roots how are they pulling? If it's the 'webbing' of hair between the dreads, just keep 'ripping' pulling the dreads apart in opposite directions. The sections will stop doing this eventually. How did you have you dreads put in or are they freeforming? If they were crocheted really tight then I'd understand as that is bad, you usually have about an inch of undreaded hair at the root so it flops about without pulling. Hmmm? I haven't really had this issue with slow formed neglect Dreads.

How many do you have? I noticed that after I split some of my bigger ones it felt much better because it wasn't pulling hair from almost a 3 inch section. Plus some of my sections were a little weird so sometimes it would pull on strands that seemed like they didn't belong in that section. Some of those I just ripped out so they're now loose hair to join a better section or maybe eventually help create a new dread.
