I will start off by posting the old photos of the epicness that was my mohawk. This was in June 2013 at San Francisco Pride and the last time I put up my mohawk before I dreaded it
As you can see in this photo, I do have a couple of dreads I started up already
I am growing out the sides of my hair in order to create more dreads for a thicker dreadhawk. Eventually I will shave the sides down.
My dreads kind of vary in age by a couple of weeks, but here are photos from when I considered them actually done after a friend helped me out with the back. The ones in the front are mostly TnR and the ones in the middle and in the back are all backcombed.
Day 1 (August 2, 2013)
Day 10
LOOPS!
2 weeks
1 Month
I added some color in my hair
and LOTS of loops this month
2 Months
Dyed over the bright colors for work and a friend gave me some beads to put in my hair. Also added a new baby dread to begin another row for my dreadhawk really happy with the way things are progressing
This one is my thickest and most favorite dread
So far, no maintenance, just washing and separating and the occasional palm rolling. Also using sea salt water occasionally to help them lock up a little quicker.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alright so my dreadhawk is now finally finished. I shaved down the sides and added another row of dreads to both sides.
About 2 months and 2 weeks and some new dreadies you'll see in these pics:
And here is a picture from a photoshoot I did with a friend. Here is a good comparison of 2 1/2 months vs. 4 years of dreadlocks:
Yes, we are adorable.
3 MONTHS!
You can just barely see my head tattoo in this one =]
Lots of progress from just a week ago, i'd say. A friend of mine recommended I start palm rolling them while they are still young. Apparently that seems to be helping them along quite nicely.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4 months!
I feel like they have tightened up really fast...almost too quickly. If anyone has any recommendations on conditioning them since they feel really dry and I want to avoid damaging them, thanks!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6 MONTHS! Got a little lazy at 5 months and forgot to take any pictures =P I switched to a different shampoo, now using a Nag Champa dreadlock soap bar I found online and love it. I am in the process of combining some dreads now and have not done really any sort of maintenance except for palm rolling while washing. I am loving how my set is turning out!
7 Months
Bleached the sides. Have stopped palm rolling to see if it makes any difference...and my dreads just look a hell of a lot more wild
I like to wear them up like this some times.
8 months. Still no maintenance. Dyed the sides blue!
9 MONTHS
10 MONTHS
11 Months
1 YEAR!!!
Started palm rolling every other wash to help smooth them out a bit and it seems to be helping. Also have some pictures from my 21st birthday in Vegas here too
1 year (left) vs. 8 months (right)- I did her dreads shortly after mine. She does a bit more maintenance than I do- she palm rolls hers frequently.
~~~~~aaaand 3 months later- now at 15 months of dreads. getting length!~~~~
This one is my largest dread- it is a tri-dread congo!
~~~~ 1 and 1/2 years!!!! ~~~~~~~
1 year and 9 months!
~~2 YEAR UPDATE!~~
Heyyy everybody. I'm at two years now. You'll notice one dread that is considerably longer than the others. My roommate crocheted one of this old dreads that he had for 5 years- pretty sweet extension, I will see how it holds up, I just added it a couple of days ago =]
~~~2.5 YEAR UPDATE!~~~
Hello! It has been awhile ;D Here are some pictures I have taken so far since I hit the 2.5 year mark in the beginning of February. Took a trip to Colorado to see Ween last weekend! So I have some pics from that trip. Seems like they have gotten much longer =D
Yes, very flattering, I know.
And since it is not very noticeable in any other pics, yes the dreadhawk is still there:
