Hey everyone! I am a pretty active fella, and i have taken almost a month off from skateboarding/snowboarding and going to the gym because of my fear of sweat and consecutive washings in my new dreads. I wanted to give my hair and scalp time to settle before i started back up with the intense activities. They are 6 days away from being a month old already Does anyone have any advice on working out/being super active and sweaty on the daily while having dreadlocks? I know dreads are just hair, but sweaty scalp and no shower just seems like a recipie for a mess. I have a pepperment oil/tea tree/lemon juice spray i could use at the end of each workout after i blow dry my head to clear the sweat up. I feel like wearing them up to prevent as much sweat from getting trapped inside the actual hair is a must. But again, this will be my first time having them while being so active. Any tips and pointers are much much appreciated! Thanks everyone!

How often you wash your baby dreads is really a matter of preference in terms of how much mess you're willing to deal with and/or how quickly you want them to lock: washing more makes locking faster, but tends to increase messy look, and vice versa. It will absolutely not hurt them, so I'd say if you're concerned about sweat buildup, by all means give them a rinse daily or just on the days you're sweaty, or whenever, but perhaps only wash them every 3-7 rinses (or as often as your scalp seems to want it--again, preference).
As for wearing them up, I'm sure it will do some degree of prevention, but letting them flop around and get friction will encourage knots, so that's also up to how you want them to proceed. I personally see sweat as potentially helpful, since it contains salt, so if it were me I'd leave the dreads down and water rinse after. ^_^

I trained for and did a triathlon when I was just under 2 years into my set. This had me working out, either swimming, running, or cycling twice a day. I didnt have any problems with the knots coming apart. Best of luck

What was your washing routine like with a workout like that?

Hey I worked out a lot in the first couple of years I had mine... wish I had more time now. I usually wear a buff headband ... it's wicking fabric and does a great job soaking up the sweat. I ordered mine off Amazon. I would also spray witch hazel mixed with a few drops of tea tree and peppermint on my scalp after. Worked really well for me.

What was your washing routine like with a workout like that? Usually every other day. However, I did spend lots of time in the water while working out. I actually think swimming in the bay helped my hair matt/lock up quicker.. Best

Get out there and workout!! Don't hold that back for a hairstyle.
If I'm feeling a bit too sweaty but don't wanna fully wash, I'll just rinse my scalp. I'll hold my dreads up keeping, them out of the way and just rinse my scalp real good. I have a shower head that I can hold and move around and it also has a more directional setting. The rinse does wonders when you can't get a full wash. Unfortunately, this only really works if your dreads are long enough to hold away. Also, some dreads will get wet but not all the way if you know what I mean.

Mine are about a month old and I wash at least twice a week sometimes 3 times. Nothing bad has happened to mine really. That being said I generally only focus on my scalp and do a quick rinse of the actual locks. Every week I'll focus on all of my hair, but I cannot have my scalp sitting too long without a wash. Just doesn't feel right.
