I am almost two weeks in and very discouraged, my dreads are super short, the look right now is stuck to my head don't know anyone personally with dreads so I'm reaching out???

They really need time, lots of it, months. With your hair type they will really start to do their own dreading in a few months. Don't be discouraged. I looked like I had a birds nest on my head for well over a year, even two years. But yours will settle in much faster. I went natural, just let my hair do its thing, but I assume you may have started with twists or crochet. You have perfect hair for dreads. The real trick is to not worry and let time pass, lots of time. They may look terrible for a while but they will then come together and take on a life of their own over the year. It's the real trick, just not worrying and letting time do its thing. This time next year you'll be positively buzzing at how they've turned out.  |

I start sets at 4" minimum. This will get me a 2" dread to work with.
Anything shorter just falls apart and hurts real bad.
James is right, this hairstyle takes a while to cultivate.

One of our kids is about 3months into his really super short dreads. They are a total mess... about 50% of them has fallen out... but somehow they seem to find their way together again if we just leave them there. They did with the other kids... his hair was probably just 3" when we started them.
But he is happy, and things are finally starting to happen now this last week(positive as only a mother can be... everybody else thinks he still looks like a mess)
My point is... it usually works itself out, but it might take a while... I wore a beanie everyday the first year or something:)

Trust me it will take months and months for dreads to be dreads. For now they are just developing and knotting up. It's easy to get discouraged but try and not care about your hair. If you keep checking them and expecting anything, you will almost always be disappointed. They WILL turn out awesome. Dreads shrink so much.
