Big time shrinking

About 7 months in and I have lost so much length, about 2/3 from already relatively short hair when I started. Over the last couple of months or so the tips are getting sucked in like crazy, and these big paddles on the end have formed on about half of my 40ish dreads. No surprises really, but I'm having my first doubts as to keeping them. I usually don't mind the mess, but damn.

So, my question is, will these paddles eventually tighten in like the rest of the dread toward the root has, or will they always be knobby on the end barring me combing those bits out and having to do that regularly?

Mostly I'm totally fine with however it goes, and probably just having one of those occasional experiences of overall annoyance at the mess. Thanks!

From what I've seen paddles will tighten till a certain point it will have a different shape. But just remember as you dreads grow u can cut off the paddles.

For me cutting is years away as most of my dreads have shrunk to about 3-4 inches long.

This guy looked very similar to yours around 2-3 months, it's been tightening up hit by bit and is now more of a lump, I have come to quite enjoy this one... but my experience is yes, it will shrink and tighten, but will always remain a bit of an excess glob of hair... but now it is not SO prominent on my head specifically.

Wow, yeah shrinkage. My paddles don't get too large because mine lock up in tiny spirals. Paddles eventually shrink too, become a bump, then part dread. With mine, they will shrink and will have loops popping out...hehe.

Your paddle ends might remain distinct from the rest of the dread body or they might not--it seems to be a case-by-case basis, but it's more likely that they'll still be distinguishable than that they'll disappear entirely. Mine are still much larger but are gradually becoming less so by way of the dread length above slowly scrunching, and while I don't believe the bunching will catch up in thickness to the blobs I do think they'll be close enough that I no longer feel like I have pendulums hanging from my head ^_^

I let mine grow to about shoulder length and then cut all the paddly ends off my dreads. I believe that over the years they will become uniform but I still cut mine, just to experience trimming and whatnot. It went fine but I can't wait to gain more length. lol.
