Hi, ive had dreads for about a month now and i know that loose hairs are very normal but my dreads seem to be very loose at times and sometimes dont even look like young dreads, the roots are just normal hair and some dreads look like normal hair at points. ik its still very early in the dread process but i just want to make sure this is normal. Thanks for all responses, Jeremy

Mine did the same thing. Some may mostly fall out, but that's okay. You can leave them be and eventually your hair will dread, or you can tnr them if they fall out. Eventually they'll hold. Most of my back ones fell out completely in the first three months, so I tnr'd them again, and they held better the second time. They will come together, but you're gonna have lots of loose hair for a while, back and forth, loosening and tightening. Six months in and all mine have locked at the roots, and have started to fold back on themselves, losing over half their length and got really crazy. Enjoy it!

Some of mine have fallen out completely at the 4 month mark. They still hold the section but they aren't locked at all, some are locked almost up to the roots. I try to prevent mine from folding in half and pick out my ends if they start to loop to much. I want to keep wispy ends though.

All normal Go through the timelines and see how it worked out for different people. No one has an identical experience due to hair type, length, different methods of cleaning etc, but loose hair is always a feature somewhere. Mine are getting on for six years now and I still have patches of loose hair that just refused to knot up... just part of the character. Give it time. Dreads are a great way to teach you patience.

My dreads fell out the day after getting them. Then I just let it knot up naturally it took a year for Me to see any changes. Now it's sectioning n knotting. But I'm s rare example.

I'm a few months in with my tnr dreads and they got real lose but have mostly tightened back up. Just keep them clean. My roots are still super lose and the new growth doesn't want to dread, but from what Ive seen nd read time is dreads best friend. So I'm gonna keep them clean and let them do what they want. Happy travels!

Mine only started to look like dreads after 9 months. Stick with it, it is worth it but it takes patience.

I'm two years in, and loose hair is what you get if you choose not to maintain them (which most of us here don't) Just keep em clean and leave them be (but for the occasional separation) and you'll be great!
