What do you guys recommend I order for my starter T&R dreads? Not sure I will even crochet at all, just want to have it on hand in case I feel the need. .5? .6? .7? Does it really even matter?! Thanks!

Using a crochet hook can cause weak spots in your locks. You need to be extremely careful not to break hairs. I have a hook that I use rarely it is 1mm.

Did you use crochet at all when you began? I know it's a controversial subject, but was thinking that if I ever was to crochet the right time would be in the very beginning?

I did with my current set, but only a little to firm them up at the very start. You really need to be so careful when using one. Only advice is be careful

I don't think it's worth it. They'll come together with a simple tnr. There's really no better shortcut other than to create the sections and wash and separate and be happy looking crazy for a year.

my two cents is use the hook only for a stray hair here and there, like one that sticks out completely. As someone who crocheted heavily on my first few dreads, I can say stay away. I ruined mine, but I also didn't have a clue what I was doing (well, with dreads. I'm familiar with crochet and the hooks and even felting needles, but it's a bit different), and was doing it maybe even up to several times a day! Loose hairs maybe every few months, but I'd say go natural or t&r or backcombed until they are fully formed and even then, probably don't need it. If you do, I think .5mm is what was recommended to me. (but I think 1mm was what I used. yes, this and well even 1.8 if you must pull in a larger section into less matured dreads). But as the others have said, use it sparingly and carefully. Do NOT attempt to felt your dreads!!! I wondered about felting needles I'm not gonna lie. I've been contemplating acid dying my hair for years too. I know it's a bad idea, but I want the color to stay 😂
