Hi!
I just wonder if it is anyone in here, who knows if you have to go up a size in riding helmets if you get dreads? Because dreads do get thicker, so i`m very worried that my hair won`t fit in my helmet. I have heard that you can take out the padding, but i don`t know how to do it.

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

I use the same skateboarding helmet I used w/o dreads and it fits very snug. My dreads aren't real chunky though. I'm using a Protec helmet and it does allow for some of the padding to be removed. For me, my dreads seemingly get absorbed into this padding though. I think someone here actually pulls some of their dreads through the helmet holes to make it fit better.
For me, I'd rather size up than remove any of the padding.

If my current helmet don`t fit when my dreads mature. I`m going to sell it, and buy a bigger size. It seems kind of risky to remove the padding if i`m going to sell the helmet. Thanks for the tip:)

I had to buy a new helmet for downhill skiing when my dreads matured... seriously had to get the largest men's size to fit all my hair in there, and my head is actually quite average size I think. Had to give up matching my pink jacket, but I'm happy:)

When riding an ATV I had to wear an XL helmet. Nothing else would fit over my hair. Thankfully some of my friends have big man heads so I was able to get a good fit. It helped wearing a headband first, especially when trying to get glasses on.

Never ever ever ever remove padding from a helmet! It will reduce the effectiveness of the helmet.
Please don't become one of my clients. Ok thanks bye!
