Okay, so a baby dread fell out the other day because it was only being held on by like 6 strands of hair and the end was quite a big club. I think it happened because when I separate I rip all hair connecting to other dreads right until I can follow the dread to the scalp with no connecting strands to other dreads. But now I'm freaked out that I'm weakening the roots by doing this and more will fall out because the roots can't sustain all the weight of the disconnected hairs??
I separate once a week and I just take each individual dread and rotate them around. If another dread moves with it, I find the hairs that are making them connect and simply rip them. I hope I'm having a paranoid moment because I think that's normal. Right?

When I separate I try hard not to break the hairs, I try to pull it from where ever it is intact then pinch roll it into the dread it should be in. I do end up breaking some hairs, but try not to. I separate once or twice a week. I feel like should be doing it more but just don't have time.
I don't think you can over separate, you may want to reexamine your technique. I'm new to this myself so I could be wrong. Maybe someone with more experience can help more.

When I separate I don't really rotate, I just pull them apart gently but firmly. I wouldnt worry about trying to pull all the hairs that connect the dresds right near the scalp. That webbing hides the scalp where the hair is sectioned. A few hairs that kind of hold on are fine as long as you can pull the dreads apart all the way. Eventually they'll pull out of one dread or just break.
Not sure how mature your dreads are, but if theyre youngish and at the stage of wanting to join their neighbors, you might consider more frequent separating. I have dreads at different stages, and I have to separate after each wash, but I'm noticing the older ones are starting to need it less and less. Done gently there shouldn't be any issues.
So, if you can pull them mostly apart you're good. And the webbing is good too.
Edit: just saw your other post -- your dreads are a year and a half old, right? Sorry, what I said was assuming you were at an earlier stage.

ah, sorry i forgot to say they are a year and a half. I can be a sectioning freak after showers because i left one once and it got quite painful and is still my biggest and wonkiest looking dread.
I'll try the advice from everyone.

lol i AM always pulling on them for some reason, it's become a habit ha. Nah, mine were always just neglect. Its hard to tell who from who sometimes on this site I'm too used to the old one but it WILL NOT load on my computer for some reason.

I've had mine for two years, and I just can't let them be. I keep tugging them apart all the time, every day. Can't stand if the hairs start to stick together and I feel it in my scalp as I wear it loose. Also love the crunchy sound of it!
They seem perfectly fine to me!
