I'm sure the mature dread owners and younger steadies have got this question so much. My question as stated in the title (Is dollylocks reliable) I ask this because I've heard a lot about the dollylocks products in the dreadlock community and otherwise people whome are vegan or cruelty free on a day to day basis. I've tried there shampoo and refresher spray I love them but as I know I've only used them for a month. Maybe less as I used to wash my dreadlocks (wrongfully) with shampoo which gave me a slight build up. As this shampoo was very thick, I want to know if the tightening spray is worth the money including the dry shampoo and moisturizing oil. Thanks to anyone who can answer. Also if you have any specific suggestions on different shampoos or company's I should try out.

I've had dreads for 8 years. Never used their stuff. Assume it's ok. Pretty sure any 'tightening spray' is pointless. If you're starting out you can make some sea salt spray of your own for nothing and that will be better. But it's not going to magically make your hair turn into moving snakes and start knotting themselves more. Only time will do that. But it will 'dry them out' and sea salt is antiseptic and generally good. People who swim in the sea a lot always have interesting dreads. The shampoo is probably good but you don't need any special shampoo for dreads. Just find one that has basic ingredients and no conditioning agents. Most do have conditioning agents in them to keep your hair 'tangle free' etc, so natural stuff from health food shops or certain brands like Neutrogena do basic residue free shampoos. There's plenty of threads about it so I won't repeat. You can even use dish soap. Just always water a squirt of your shampoo down in a separate bottle with a lot of water before applying. It'll make rinsing it out a lot easier.
