So I'm in Birmingham for a convention the first weekend in Oct, and planning to fly back from Edinburgh the Thurs or Fri after that.
Any recommendations of where to stop and visit on the drive back to Scotland??
I'm thinking Cambridge, York, maybe a quick stop in Stratford upon Avon (my sis has been there before but Shakespeare), Newcastle...

Alnwick if you fancy a castle on your way through Northumberland. It's just off the A1 so easy to get to.
Definitely Newcastle, I'd even say Durham as it's easy to walk round the old part up by the cathedral and castle.
How are you travelling between flights? I'd suggest a drive along Hadrian's Wall.

Take your time through Northumberland then, we have more castles here than any other county in England. Check the tides and get across to Lindisfarne. They have the tiniest castle on a big outcrop of rock, and you can see straight across to Bamburgh castle. Northumberland coastal route, castles... you're sorted.

Thank you!! My sis did a MSc in Arthurian Literature so castles are definitely our thing haha.
Zoos are mine, but I'll do a proper zoo trip another time I think
