So, I had on set before this one that lasted 3 months and I brushed them out because they were thicker than I would have liked. This new set I started in April 19th Prepare for a lot of pictures! I will start out with a couple of my natural hair without dreads.
I had stopped conditioning and relaxing my washing schedule from every other day to every third day. I started them when I had a three day weekend off from work cuz I would be doing these myself. I used twist and rip and backcomb, switching back and forth. I kinda did what I thought was best throughout the process. It took about two days to complete. Here is the first picture I took when I finished them. They got really frizzy and puffy like expected.
These next few are the first week
This is the second week. The fluffiness went own a little. At this point, I palm rolled them every other day and when I got out of the shower. They were kinda getting flat cuz they are so soft and sleeping on them.
May 4th, I added about 7 extensions on my lower rows. I used the dreads I shaved off the right side of my head.
May 6th. Took a couple pictures before I dyed it red
May 9th got a new shirt for my birthday! The extensions are melding nicely and aren't falling out. (I know it was early to put them in, but I couldn't wait to have some length! ^^)
One month! The extensions were starting to tighten up and starting the loop phase. Within the next week of this I stopped palm rolling and just let them do their thing. I was ready to embrace the loops! The only maintenance I did from here on out was separating sections (I did crochet some once to get rid of some the big loops in later down the road cuz they were annoying.)
Then we skip to June 11th. (one week short of two months) Everything is shrinking and getting crazy loopy and bumpy!
July 20th, (3 months) bleached my hair back to blonde. Shrunk like 2 inches!
July 28th (3 months one week)
August 4th, This is about when it stopped shrinking faster than it was growing and I could notice it maybe actually getting longer? I don't know if it is just my hopefulness or if it is actually getting longer haha
I started to notice that 98% of my dreads were just growing out of my head into a dread automatically but there are like 4 behind my ears that have a really loose root. Its about 2+ inches of loose hair and they are still not locking up. I have been taking the hair in between my fingers and rubbing them, just to get some friction to encourage the knots to for but my hair is so soft and silky even without conditioner that it wont do anything. Do you guys have advice about this? I figure I just have to wait but I don't want to have crazy long loose roots.
August 18th (4 months) Right before I went on my vacation. I love comparing all the other pictures I have taken with my hair all spread out like this to see how they have progressed!
August 21st-28th
And this was on Wednesday. Sept 14th. (a couple days short of 5 months) So, in all, I am extremely happy that they are maturing so fast! I was afraid since my hair is so silky naturally that they wouldn't knot up that fast and it would be messy for far longer! But I just let them do their thing and let them be. The major shrinking should be all done now. Should is the operative word haha I still expect them to shrink here and there but hopefully my hair will continue to grow at a normal rate. I've been fighting myself not to break down and get extensions. But this process has helped me with my patience. I want to keep them as natural as possible.
Let's compare the first day v 5 months!
