The tips of my dreads have turned really light through the summer. My hair is a sort of typical Scandinavian dark blonde color, however the ends are almost white now. When I look at other people's timelines I see that a lot of people have the same thing going on. So... This might be a stupid question, but anybody knows why this is happening? With undreaded hair I'm used to the top of my head being sunbleached, not the tips...

Well, I think it's fairly obvious my bleached ends are not naturally-occurring, so I can't offer an answer even though I have the same shit going on.
I have noticed, when bleaching my hair, that the looser parts of the tips generally go a lot lighter than the dreaded bits so maybe that's just it? That the hair at the tips is looser and so gets bleached from the sun's rays more easily?

Thanks for answering! Think you might have a point... And also, I guess the tips are more exposed to salt water, chlorine and other bleaching summer stuff. And when I come to think of it, the tips of my dreads have been stuck in the same spot for almost two years now, where undreaded hair would move more around (in shadow/sun) and eventually fall out. So yeah, I guess it's natural that the tips are blonder then the rest, just not sure if I appreciate it.

Mine were dyed, but the hair at the bottom is the oldest, and with dreads, unlike loose hair, the same hairs are always on the outside being hit by the sun and elements. My dreads higher up, where I haven't hit them with chemicals, are much lighter than the roots of my hair.

My hair is the colour of my roots(brown) naturally. Since dreading it has turned into this I've never dyed my dreads.

I actually combed out the blunted tips on my dreads, cause I wanted them whispy... and on the inside, the hair was still the same color as the roots.... and seriously... the color difference is so huge in my dreads, it really looks like I bleached them... guess it is because it's the same hair being exposed to sun and salt water all the time

Took a picture of this one tip where I find it quite obvious how the hair that has been on the outside of the dread is waaaaaay lighter then the hair on the inside... so my conclusion is, it has to be the elements bleaching the hair that is exposed.
