Very cool timeline I'll be watching . Also started with neglect but I twist and ripped as my hair is thin and curly and wasn't holding after washes . I really like your hair and excited to see how it's comes along . Seems like you're receiving fast results ! Bless
What is your maintenance routine ?

Thanks nessdeyali , I did throw in a small amount of twist & rip just before the 2 week mark in an attempt to encourage the sections I liked that were forming. These all pretty much fell out and disappeared. My hair has always been full of crazy waves and curls which I never was a fan of previously. Now it looks like that is working to my advantage. My hair likes to tangle. As for maintenance... No deliberate manipulation, no palm rolling, no further t&r, I'm just letting it find its own way at the moment. Only separated one chunk forming at the back once. Washing is 2-4 days apart depending on how dirty it gets (I exercise a lot, but I try and stretch washes out to 4 days if possible). If only 2 days apart I tend to only wash with water, otherwise its diluted Baking Soda rinsed through and out followed up with an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse, also then rinsed out. This I tend to use about every 3rd wash. For the remainder I use Paul Mitchell Clarifying Shampoo Number Three (it removes chlorine, and I splash in the pool every so often). When washing I am gently with the hair, making an effort not to separate anything. Seems to be working for me. I'll watch the dryness of my hair and may add in the occasional bit of coconut oil if I think its getting too dry, but I haven't needed to so far.

I've been pretty happy over the last couple of days with how the dreads are forming. Scored a few compliments too, so something must be going alright.

Another update...2.5 months in. I'm happy with the development. Probably mainly because the frizz has reduced heaps.

They are certainly setting in Jason. Good development. I forgot how interesting theses early stages are. Chaos finding order.

Thanks james "chaos finding order" is the perfect description. mcrx it's easy to know it was you, you have a distinctive style in your posts. I've definitely had to fight the urge to manipulate my hair, but it's now getting easier as I can see the progress happens better with the bits I leave alone. As for learning... well I've taken the approach that's served me well in other endeavours: go to the experts and follow their advice while double checking that it really does apply to my situation. That's what's so great about this forum. It's full of consistent advice from those who have done it all before and backed up with some amazing timelines.

Updated for 3 months, I've been wishing the process was faster, but I'm in the mindset of just sucking up this part at the moment. Going over others timelines has helped.

Yay!! A fellow runner! I see a loop or two forming in there. You got some curl in your hair too so that should help. As you are sensing, it's best not to think of the end goal and just to enjoy the process at this point.

Yay, another runner on here Thanks jxbx I think you are right about the curls. They used to make my hair hard to style, but now seem to be my friends when dreading. For the most part I am enjoying the process, but it definitely has it's times of frustration. Though I think I had more frustration with shorter hair if I think about it.
