Hello there! <3 Long time lurker, first time poster and whatnot. Anyhoo, I've been super self conscious about the top of my head lately. I had a friend of mine who makes synthetic dreads do my hair. It was her first time, and she didn't really know how to do a whole head. She ended up doing quite unique sectioning on the top of my head, and it's left me with a very strange pattern. I am in love with my dreads (which are now 2 years old), but the fact that you can see my scalp so easily really bothers me. Is there any way to fix this? If I lay them differently it helps a wee bit. I am considering having synthetics put in to help hide my scalp, but as I don't have anyone who could regularly maintain them I am not sure if it's the correct way to go for me. Any input would be incredibly appreciated. <3 Thank you!

It looks pretty normal, in honesty, especially early on. As your dreads begin to get new growth, you'll find that you'll have like a "web" of hair around the roots as they try to eat each other and that will help to hide the scalp a little but it's to be expected that most people will have some visible areas. I will say that it's not worth being self-conscious about as most people aren't looking at the top of your head.

You don't wear your hair like that normally right? Having "veins" of exposed scalp is the nature of the beast I believe. Try looking at your lovely set of locks as a whole. Pick out what's positive. We all have "issues" with our dreads but on the whole they look super cool!!

jxbx -- you always give good advice, you have a good head under those dreads.

Thank you so much everyone! <3 This has been on my mind because I am only 5' tall, so many people see the top of my head.

I think most people with dreads have that 'problem'. But you look beautiful. I don't know how long your hair is, but it looks like it's long enough for you to make a french braid. That will hide it.

...and you can put in small dreadlock exstensions on your upper dreads like 'fake' congos. It can hide it, because it fills the gaps with more dreads. I have seen some people doing that. But eventually it will grow out so it's not a permanent solution.
