Silly question and I ... well, I heard it takes like 2 years even for crcheted dreads to start growing in length. (Or any type?) Eh, just wondered if I actually did "kill" some of mine ...if they will actually grow out and if two years....I mean mine haven't really done much in 3 months but...two years? !? Well, they seem to be shriveling up (oh dear) so if that is change. (Ok, this is actually "Ana" my most neglected one in the back but...maybe crocheted some, I really can't remember. I really can't even see back there right now, so) Yeah so hmm, I'm back the dread worry again "is this normal" syndrome, just like the rest of you "newbies"! *dreads at 7months atm

The thing is, they grow in length. But most of it is used to make the dreads more solid. If that make any meaning

dreads can lose length through the knotting process. i had hair down past my boobs and now it's a little past my shoulders. i highly doubt anyone can say how long it will be to gain length because all hair is different. but with dreads hair doesn't just grow down, it goes into the knots so length takes a bit longer.

Makes sense mine is up to my ears!! I think I needed more of emotional support on this...actually, no I WAS wondering if I had done too much damage or something. And two years thing...well, I have honestly been a little nervous about keeping my dreads...I kinda wondered what to expect but maybe ...I mean, ahhh. Yeah I just wanted those long dreads...hmm I'd say id admire the patience of folks...actually I do. hey is there a thread on dealing with like people's reactions? I REALLY hate to admit it, but not feeling support here (in my real life). I mean, not getting hate, just apathy or like dislike but not hate. Um...I mean it was "im hapy youre happy" but now...idk. maybe it's in my head. Maybe I need convincing. Yeah, just...wheres that thread, or remind me again why this IS a good idea. I mean, I really want them, plain and simple...just the "I like how they feel" is getting annoying or something.

I see, but do you want dreads to please others or to please yourself? People will "hate" for whatever you do, so it's best to not give a fuck. You can see dreads as a prize, for not letting our fucked up society letting you down.

Totally selfish! but, it certainly would be nice having SOMEBODY appreciate them (in real life, I mean). However, well maybe I complainede too soon?? Not 100% sure, but my "hippie" aunt finally got to see them today and seemed enthusiastic. Haha but then, and this is just my interpretation, she seemed a little bummed at how short or how few I had. Lol I tried to explain some about the shrinkage and how they take a few years to mature...and she asked if I was planning on more, and I explained the whole knotty mess around them. everybody wants that instant gratification! To be honest tho, it would be nice to show it that way, on the other hand, this is very exciting and will give room for more conversation...maybe...and hopefully positve. She is usually pretty excited about things tho. Haaha "hippie aunt" yeah, she is theone who bought me that soap I posted here long ago! Sadly, my sister didn't get to see yet, but well, this gives more time for them to mature. Kinda exciting! hmm, and well what else? Idk for another time, maybe.

Well, most people don't appreciate the look of undreaded messy hair. They use to change their mind when they're mature through.

Most of my dreads are backcombed and crocheted 1,5 year ago (as you know) . Before I got them, I had very long, fine hair (to my lower back). I think I lost like almost half the length the first day. After that, I haven't really lost any length, and I think they are beginning to grow in length already. But I think it depends on how fine and long your hair you have.

Yes I think so. My boyfriend think so too. But maybe it's just imagination. But I know for sure that the small dreads in the back (the shortest ones) have grown because in the beginning I could not have them in a pony tail which I'm able to have now! And since yours are shorter (are they? how short are they?), yours may grow faster.

marie yeah, like less than 4 or 5 inches, some longer with the wispy ends...but they started at midback length! Was just playing with the one ("Ana" cuz i already mentioned it) and well, maybe she IS growing out (maybe? maybe not), but she's the thin root one, so like the full dread isn't so long. I didn't actually measure this one yesterday, but one of my others has grown, another still has shrunk more, because it is blunting. (my ends are blunting all too easily now!...of course when i want the wispies! ) So..yeah, i just have no idea any more...just waiting for them all to fall out now! haha just kidding. but waiting, yep lots of waiting.

Haha. Don't do that! You can always add fake length with extensions of real hair, wool or what not .
