So, 2 months in and certain areas are really trying to join together. I separate after each wash, and in a few of those places, even after I pull the baby-dreads apart, there's still slightly less than an inch or so of loose 'webbing' between them. Only in one or two places have I used my finger to gently pull out some of the hair that one dread was trying to eat from another, because those two really want to congo.
My question is, as long as I can pull them apart, is the bit of webbing that joins the dreads near the root normal? Or should I take the time to try to separate them more at this stage, as in down to the scalp? My instinct is the former, but I seem to be entering a stage where this is something I'm having to do after each wash, especially on the side of my head that I sleep on. I don't want to overdo it, because they're still soft and just starting to knot up more at the root.

Yeah, totally normal and helps hide the scalp ^^

Some of my dreads that are at 2 months are sticking together like crazy too, it's like they're Velcro! I always have little webs of hairs between them even though I'm separating them every night, so I wouldn't worry about it too much

It's normal, my 8yo dreads have a mass of that "webbing" at the roots too. I don't bother separating until I notice some are actually joining.

I have a load of webs near my scalp almost 2 years in. Like Paul, unless they are commited to congo'ing then I just leave it.

Glad the responses were what I figured they'd be, as I'm honestly too lazy to do anything more than just washing and separating. The only ones I've messed with are where it was obvious a few loose hairs from the center of a section were migrating to another section and pulling enough to be uncomfortable when I separated. And yes, the webbing is great, as it definitely hides the scalp. Thanks, guys.
