Today I'm restarting my journey with freeform locs. Decided to t&r them all again after they separated on their own. 22 December 5 months! 28 Nov. 20 Nov. 2016, 4 months. They're looking like dreads!! 17 Nov. 2016 Close to 4 months these crazy loops started to appear everywhere. 20 Oct. 2016 30 Sept. 2016 15 sept. 2016 In need of a separation, they're really progressing though. I started using a salt spray yesterday 23 Aug 2016 added more TnR sections. 16 Aug, 2016-decided to TnR the pieces as they section themselves. 1 week it's starting to separate. Not much for knots yet. <3 Day 1: Thanks for adding me. This is my first set and they're totally wild right now. Is it normal for the top 4" to be loose? Day 1 Day 4 A better look at progress day 5

Welcome! Looseness is to be expected early on, in fact you'll probably find that they'll start coming undone before they begin to "dread up" properly. That's a perfectly natural part of the process though, so no need to panic when it happens... here, take a look at this collaborative timeline that our friend put together and you'll get an idea of the early stages: soundcloud.com/macabremagpie/100-days-of-artLooks like a good start! The dreads look great on you.

Paul is right, in most cases you are just noticing the tip of the iceberg as far as a mess is concerned. My advice is just keep rocking this spunky attitude that comes across in the pictures and embrace the wild. In time your hair will be a full set of awesome locks.

Well, I lost my nerve and brushed them out last week. I couldn't deal with the shear volume of them or the dislike my bf so adamantly stated. I regretted it almost immediately. As I combed each loc, I saw the character that was building. Each one an individual. Today, I'm starting the free form "technique." I did however leave a couple babies in the back when I brushed out the rest. I just couldn't bring myself to finish. This is going to be my journey, along the way I will learn to leave other people's opinions behind and love myself more. <3

You have to not care. Honestly my hair was just a mass of mess for two years until it started looking like dreadlocks. Now they're just good ropes, but you'll get there by not caring. Time flies fast. Even though I went natural I'd probably kick start them with T&R if I started again, even though they fall out it took a year for my hair to look like fallen out dreads in natural knotting. Your hair looks like it was on the way. Some folks have good natural dreads in six months but don't hold your breath. If you want them you'll grow them. Good luck.

I'm going to give then a little t&r love as the sections start to appear. Thanks for the words of wisdom and encouragement. I just have to stop caring like you said. Your locs are great, did you have much shrinkage?

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

Sorry to hear you brushed out because ya felt "the heat"...but I'm glad you found the love for 'em so immediately after the loss For shrinkage, mine always shrunk roughly half the length. This is from starting at roughly 10cm (4"), doing T&R, and ending up with 5cm (2") dreadlings...hehe.

Patience isn't my strength. So as sections form I've been T&Ring them. I separated today and have one starting to lock and consume all the hair around. I'll take that as a good sign. 😝

Haha ok. So I'm T&Ring them again. I've got about 60 done so far. That's the bottom/back part. Slowly working my way towards the top and my face over the next couple weeks.
