I have started my dreads 2 days ago and have finished tonight i used twist and rip and some backcombing on ends. I want to add extension but when do i add them? I will be making myself do i make them with the backcoming method? How do i install them into my dreads? I know i can crochet the ext in but the rest of my dreads are not crocheted so it would look funny i imagine...help me please

Welcome! I have to be quick right now so I'll get on to the "how" later (unless someone else wants to fill in that part), but I'm sorry to say that adding extensions should be held off until your locks are mature, if you want a healthy set of dreads on your head. This is because the hair needs to be able to move around in order to knot up properly and, when you add extensions before they're "solid", this prevents that movement and will lead to weak spots. Most people's hair reaches a point where you can add extensions within 6-8 months, but that can change depending on hair type etc.

I fixed a few smaller dreads that went together and left the ends to add extensions but now im thinking should i dread all of the ends to will it be easier to add the extension?

Looks great. Please do know that a lot of us had terrible hair turning into dreads gradually over years, real chaos. It finds its feet. Don't fret. The trick is to mentally let go of control, rewards come over months. You'll go mad trying to look good in year one. Just be like us and go crazy. But besides that, looks good

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

I think if you use extension now, you'll have hair with dread extensions. If you wait and let your head dread first, you'll have dreads with dread extensions. Make sense?

I have no advice either way for the extensions, I don't know anything about them really, but your hair looks great! I've heard that starting with short hair prevents it from shrinking up as much, so you may not even lose very much length. Either way, looks good!

Thats where im confused i have been reading and watching youtube vids. Some people say to starts new dreads with extensions so all the hair dreads together but the ppl saying that are using crotched hair extensions on crotched locks. And some ppl say wait till 6months so my hair will be locking up, and the extension will lock in but the thing is i dont want crocheted extensions i want them to be the same as my hair! I dont know what to do

You can make extentions any way you want. The different methods all pretty much turn out the same over time. Here's a video on t&r extentions: I agree with the guys above though. You want your hair to be free to move so they can lock up before you try putting the extentions in. You'll be much happier with the results Enjoy the ride
