Some people have been saying that I should be careful because after blow drying, even though dreadlocks might feel dry, they could still have moisture inside. I always panic the morning after washing my dreads incase some of them still had moisture inside when I slept on them, especially since some of my dreads have lumps, which I've heard can hold moisture and so are more likely to grow mold! So, I was wondering, is there any way to tell if your dreads are still holding moisture on the inside even though they feel dry? (Sorry, this might be a really stupid question).

I wouldn't worry about it too much.... if you're going several days between washes, at least, then they'll dry out. It's only if they never get the chance to dry out that you need to worry.
One way you could tell would be to wrap a tissue around your dread and press into it to squeeze any moisture out.... you'll tell if there's any water in there as it'll wet the paper.

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

In addition to the insights above, I can tell by the weight. When fully dry, dreads just seem to move more freely and with less effort.

I definitely worry too much, I blow dry them for ages but still convince myself they feel damp, haha that tissue idea will be helpful though, thank you!

I'm having a problem keeping my dreads dry. I've only had my dreads a month now but Im afraid of mold. I sweat constantly, its summer and I live in a hot humid area. I feel like my head is constantly damp as I have no A/C and I know I sweat while I sleep. Is there anything I can do to better keep my scalp dry or is this even a problem?

It's very unlikely to be a problem. Very unlikely. I don't know why suddenly this mouldy hair thing has come up. It's 99% not gonna happen. There are other influences that might cause that 1% to happen. And even though sweat might be a bit 'blurgh', it's actually salty sweat and that's not really going to do any harm. Armpits only smell because of glands and pheromones for better or worse, sweat anywhere else is pretty fresh and is just your own bodies A/C.

Thanks man, I was just a bit concerned. When you have something new that you love and care for you tend to get a bit paranoid of anything going wrong lol.

I use essential oils to help them conditioned, strong, kill bacteria and stop it from forming, and for dandruff. I use many different ones including but not limited to: lavender, cedarwood, lemon, TEA TREE, clary sage, peppermint, spearmint, rosemary, and more. I mix several of these in a dropper with a carrier oil. There are several of those you can use as well. Just look up which ones are good for hair and scalp. For carrier oils and essential oil and ratios.
