Hi again! I'm a worrier so I post here a lot, sorry >.< So a couple dreads on the top of my head have pretty thin roots, they're not thinnING, they just were formed very small and the rest of the dread has thickened up, so I have regular sized dreads with small root areas I guess? I'm so worried that they're just going to snap off one day, the root sections are so small and I have fine hair too. Does this look ok? When they lay the wrong way it pulls hairs and kind of hurts. I don't know if I just let them be will the root areas eventually fill in a bit more? Ahh thanks for any thoughts! Also, ignore the lint/dandruff/whatever the hell it is, tomorrow's wash day.

it seems like one strand IS in fact straight and pulling. I'm actually curious because i think I had the same problem. I say HAD because I think I pulled out that strand..and literally made my root thinner. idk. it's thin now tho. It looks fine to me though. Like I said, (and I actually made a post here too...I'll find the link. ok, here dreadlocktruth.com/thread/313/question-turned-teaching-moment ) yeah, "teaching moment"...well, I guess my take away is you COULD strengthen thin roots with loose hair. Oh wait! you probably don't as you've fully dreaded. so, idk! but yours don't look as bad as the ones in this vid. eh, but I worry just as much. like i said, curious what others will say, but that's my observation, that yours are probably not in danger of falling off

That's not too thin, it'll probably sort itself. I can see why it hurts, there's a few hairs pulled in there at the root quite tight so the dread will be yanking it out of your head when it lays one way. You could try to pull those hairs near the root that are being tugged upon ,backwards out of the dread towards the root a little. ( there is an obvious few hairs pulled straight in the photo towards the right) or just ill them out your head the opposite as they'll eventually do that, but you don't want them thinner yet so try easing the hair out the dread just a little so it can flop about without pulling. Dreads like that will pull in more and more hair so I wouldn't worry about thickness but you can always combine a couple of dreadlocks if they're too thin. Most of mine were once two or three thin dreads, lots congoed themselves but a few I just poked into each other at the root as they were too thin and over time they sort of become one.

Yeah if I find any loose hairs around that dread I'll add them to it, but right now I don't have much loose hair right there :/

I do have another thin-ish one next to it that I can combine it with if I need to, but I would rather avoid combining anymore since I've had problems doing that before. I might end up doing like you said and just poking the roots through though!

Or is it thinning in like the middle of the dread? Because I've seen plenty of people lose a dread halfway down and then Reattach it, and maybe it would be done even if it was close to the root? I'm really not sure, just wondering out loud
