So probably around my 3 months mark i combined two tiny dreads on the top of my head (I took one, threaded onto a blunt needle with a very large eye, and threaded it through the other one). I learned that this wasn't a good idea >.< so now at nearly 9 months, I'm noticing that the combined one isn't locking up like the rest. I'd really rather not comb it out and redo it, but I will if I have to. Do you think it'll ever properly lock up if I just leave it? Thanks!

It looks like you threaded it in and out at various points.... sorry if we were unclear, but yeah, the idea is to pull it through the root and into the larger dread like a foot into a sock (so that it's contained within) otherwise it won't be able to lock up properly.
Personally, I think it depends how you feel about the dread. Undoubtedly it WILL tighten up a bit over the next year or two, though not completely into one dread and it will probably always have the bumpiness. I'd say you could just go with it and it'd be a unique dread within your set (unless you're a relentless fidget, like me, and would keep poking at it).
Another alternative would be to pull it out (grab the bits that are sticking out the sides and gently de-thread it) up until the last point that it's combined. Then you'll have two dreads combined as like a Y shape but which WILL grow out as one.
Or, you could throw a dread wrap or some other form of decoration around it.

Ahh, yup I meant to go straight down the inside of the dread but it's a bit hard to do on yourself, and I ended up going in and out a bit. Hmm I think I may leave it be and see what happens. You can't really see in the photo, but the roots are quite seperated still and I'm hoping that over time as the hair grows out, they'll kind of combine normally? Wraps or beads kind of bug me to have in my hair, so I guess I'll just leave it be and thank you!

Yeah, don't worry... So long as they're joined relatively near the scalp (like, within an inch) then they will definitely combine after a bit of time has passed. I've never known that technique to fail... I've literally just popped one dread through the root of its neighbour before and it's worked.

I actually combined some of mine by just poking the m through a neighbours root. At a few months nothing has happened. Then I forget and two years later they are absorbed as one with only a little tail telling there may have once been two. I don't know how it happens but when you look away for a long time it does. It is defying logic.
