So I chopped off the ends to all my locks. I am two years (next month is two year!!) purely neglect dreads. I just wanted a change in length. They were a little past my shoulders and I cut them to my chin. However, one or two are as short as my index finger because i guess i'm NOT good at cutting my hair haha. they are at the bottom. none of them have come undone or anything but i'm just wondering if it's generally okay to cut dreads short? I've really only seen people trim them a bit but still keep them long. I plan to grow them back out probably to my butt but just for future reference, is it damaging at all to cut them that drastically?

The only way it would cause a problem is if you cut them so close to the root that the dreaded parts just come undone and you lose the sectioning all together, but you'd have to go insanely close for that to happen so I doubt you need to worry. Basically, so long as there's dreaded hair below the point at which you cut the ends off, you'll be fine. Really, what's happening further down a dread doesn't affect the new growth a great deal if at all.
