Hello all, and id like to welcome myself to this forum. I plan on getting dreadlocks for the first time on Saturday. I am an African American male with decent hair, as I am Swedish. It is about 4" long. How long would my dreads be? Also? Would my hair dread at 4" or should I wait. Any help appreciated!

Welcome! I waited for my hair to be around 4-6" to start dreads using the T&R method. They usually shrink to half the starting length. For me, 4" is the minimum length to start. Anything shorter, for my hair, would not stay. I have see people with shorter dreads though, so it is possible. For reference, my hair is thick and curly.
Good luck and enjoy the journey!!

@karhoot -- I had trouble getting the tnr to stay in my 6 inch hair. Backcombing has worked better for me so far, but everybody is different -- I have super fine hair, though a lot of it. I immediately lost about a third of my length when I backcombed.
Good luck!

you can always start and if they fall out you know you would have to wait, if they stay in then you're already started.

What I did, though my hair was considerably longer when I started (and straight..) you could section (or not.. Really you can just grab random tufts of hair) and backcomb some "starter knots" (basically about a half inch to an inch length of the section) to start them and go neglect/natural method and let em do their thing... A lot of people think you skip the whole "shit! My dreads are coming undone!!!" stage by doing this...
