Hey guys! I've been lurking around on here for a little while and decided to finally sign up. =)
My dreads will be a month old tomorrow, I used TnR method. A lot of them are doing really well and forming wicked loops everywhere, but I have fine hair and a few of them look like they're literally just twisted hair and the knots have fallen out. They're still in their sections, so are they okay or do I need to try to create some knots in them again?

They should be fine... Just follow ur regiment and be patient and they'll do their thang! Also, check out others timelines on here and you can see that absolute carnage is the norm for the most part. I myself am on month 4 of my 3rd set of dreads and going through the saaaaaaaaame shenanigans :/ see? So don't fret! LOTS of knowledge and awesome support to be found around here!

Chad's right, they'll be totally fine; the most control you'll need to exert is keeping the sections apart, beyond that they'll take it from here ^_^

The sections are the important part of this stage so yes, as you thought, there's no need to worry.

But most people assume it's an overnight thing and don't get the 'process' of looking like I lost a wrestling match with a wool sweater for a few months lol

I had a friend ask me how long I'd been dreading, and another said, "I was wondering if that's what you were trying to go for". Then she started telling me about salons I could go to, to get them done. lol.

I have so many people (mainly african american..not sure why) tell me i need to crochet and get them "tightened". It bothers me because im not goin for the "style" of dreads they assume. I think also...most people uneducated about the process really dont understand or appreciate the beauty of the "journey" to mature dreads. Nor do they realize that it's not an instant hairstyle to the end result. My family thinks im off the wall when i tell them this is all part of the process. Haha

People act like you've done something horribly wrong when they see them. haha. But we are all on this beautiful journey, and as cliche as it sounds, it has made me feel more at home and at peace with myself. Because, for once, I'm being patient with myself!
