So it's hard to show with pictures what's going on.. so I made a little video. The first dread I hold up is whats visibly knotty the rest is sectioned hair holding together some how there also super tiny and I haven't separated in about 2 months..and it's been 9 months since I stopped brushing. just want to know if it's doing better or worse then I think. Is this how your hair was james till about 2yes or more knotted those "sections" range between 1/2mm sq to 2mm sq.

sorry, acid...just can't resist. This looking so familiar! (yours is a bit more together though...so for 9months, you shouldn't worry) edit: one comment-i am not familiar with the shampoo you use, might want to consider dishsoap. This helped knot -up quickly (then again, so did the Lush bar too.) and if you haven't tried one, maybe consider a dry shampoo for in between to keep the hair knotty?? Idk...seriously, from experience this comes...but again, doesn't work for everyone. might want to tag James, so he'll see it for sure. (idk, i'm not the one to be talking about tagging or suggesting it..but well, there it is)

yeah, actually, it's not so scary. Others on here have mentioned using it, so I finally caved and tried it. I have heard mention that some dilute it...maybe for long term use, but i didn't ha! but I think i'll be going back to the Lush bar next time.

I tried it prior to buying dread shampoo but I diluted it left my hair super soft as usual lol.. maybe I'll try it un-diluted.

Hey! I want to say soft is like the first step for hair types like ours though. I hope she doesnt mind, but I keep thinking of how Sarah's (saralcat? something like that) started out. And she got to this "soft" fuzzy looking stage. Its in the timeline. Anyway, I kinda have that finally...it makes it easier to knot. I didn't want to wait, so I added wool rubbing to my routine. (Or even just using your fingers and rubbing the hair on itself. This seems to work just as well, if not better, atm because I can get better...aim at the individual dreads.)
Anyway, just thought I would add those things...and that soft thing, I got that again just last night when I went back to the lush bar so... I really think it is a step to that "birds nest" hair. Hehe

14mo difference I thought I wanted small dreads turns out I like them a bit fatter so I'm trying to make them congo. But at least there knotting also I switched to a charcoal shampoo bar I find it has helped with my hair type.

ACIIIIIID!!! hi! anyhoo, 14 month or 13? (Vid says 13, but post says 14) A any rate, wow! Looking VERY familiar! (As I always say right? ) But seriously, I was excited when I pulled out a zigzag one this morning, like one of those. Actually, I've forced a lot of mine, so some are in fact more clumped straightlike and shrinking...I have to ask you (and or the community at large) about those huge clumps ones you have underneath, the bottom ones that have shrunk up majorly...so you leave those as is and they will straighten, er, pull together into a rope eventually or...?? ? I feel like willowbranches had these?? As im sure others, but that setcomes to mind. I keep sorta palmrolling mine, not all and not all the time, but most have less loops...but I wonder if that's also why I keep losing chunks, those loopy clumps at the ends (that will actually fall off my head), or if they would just fall out anyway ...its trial and error i suppose. Started leaving them be a bit more and just roll out those that look more sturdy and combine the weaker ones. Eh! I really think they look awesome by the way! Also, the congos with which you speak of, I mean, I'm kinda wavering myself, but I seem to keep separating, because it is my hope that they will still thicken over time, and or can congo them later even. I mean yours (and mine) due to our hair type, well it appears we are going to have tons of time to figure this out. Soooo sloooow going, eh? Hehe But it's fun! Enjoy the freedom with a bit slower going dreads!

Made a typo about 14 it is 13. Also I feel the clumpy/loopy ones develop a mind of there own and have a unique shape but the new growth will be rope like. My oldest dreads on the back were back combed still have crazy loops on the ends some are straight but mostly have a unique tip on each. However there only 13months old so I'm not sure if they will change anymore. I personally think they are going to retain the unique tips as they are as tight as they can possibly get. But I can't see the future so who knows

Those locs are 5yo and that's how my tips form so I'm pretty sure once they loop shrink and tighten they stay like that =\

Hmmmm? Yeah. It looks recognisable at this stage, but I don't know why your hair looks oily, nothing wrong with that but it doesn't look like dry, fuzzy hair that will dread faster. The mop looks like it needs a good squish in some sea-salty bi-carb bowl of water or dish soap watered down. Get it dry, even damaged, hair will kick start your sections to knot even more. Even after 3 years I still had a few sections that refused to dread. You can go 'fuck it', and twist and rip a few. I would. It'd be fun to compare. It looks normal development but I can see it's going to take ages still in places and start annoying ya. Give it a kick up the bum.

you'll see i'm not the only one posting here, but ugh ha! In response to james 's post- I'm a bit bitter because I tried t&r a few in my neglect section, and most are falling right back out! so nothing to compare there. ahh, just being a shit! well, not really. this did happen and I'm bitter, but whatever. It most likely will work for others. ------------ kinda wishing I had shorter hair now...maybe less hassle with the bottoms

It will dread. Mine was only finding its sections at that point. So it's normal. I just don't want anybody to wait as long as me. I don't think I'd have that patience if I did it again. But yeah, see, mine was just looking as it was at that point. It did happen.
