So I just started my dreads about a week or so ago and everything went a little odd.. I told my friend not to use wax as I was opposed to it sadly she had spent hours on one single dread backcombing and every time she Palm rolled it came undone.. I was disheartened a bit so I felt the only way to achieve my dreads was to let her use very Minimal wax on them, the second try was a success! A week into it now and some of my dreads are falling apart? Some are holding their own even though I do not religiously Palm roll for hours on end but I do spend some time rolling them. I have been using this all organic tightening spray from Dollylocks (wanted to be as natural as possible) and yet to no avail I am getting loose hairs in the middle yet around the outer top of my head seems to be okay, sadly I feel like I must wax them sparingly to keep them together otherwise they'll just fall apart, I'm terrified of washing my hair cause I know they might end up all coming undone and I will have to repeat the process.
I'm looking for opinions for what I should do, just so confused how my hair is so course and thick that it wouldn't dread just by the friction and rolling, oh I am a white female with red hair if that helps the story.
Is it possible that my hair type will never dread? Hoping I can make my dread dream a reality!

No it's normal. What you have had done is back combed hair, it's not dreads yet. Don't use wax, it's normal for things to fall apart. Have a look at the 'timelines thread', and see it's all normal. Dreads take 6 months- 2 years to start looking like you hoped they would. You are in the right place. We know. It's all fine.

What about the tightening spray will that be beneficial? Just very new to this and just trying to understand how this all works

The best thing you can do is just leave them alone to do their thing. This is my second set of dreads and all I did to this set was backcomb, nothing added, and this set has come along much quicker and more to my liking.

I don't know if this will help you but this is my hair right after I backcombed to 10 months I promise you hair will dread adding all that extra stuff to your hair won't accelerate the process
