Hoping someone here can put my mind at ease. My natural dreads are just under 2 years but i've been noticing that my front dreads have a lot of white dots in them. at first i assumed it was dandruff but upon closer inspection it's actually the little white end of my hair roots, i guess from hair that has been pulled out?? there are tons of them and it looks like dandruff but it definitely isn't. is this normal? should i be worried? The only thing i do is separate them by pulling them apart or ripping the connecting hair if dreads are getting joined, that's it. I have a lot of short loose hair but i think thats normal.
And on a slightly unrelated topic because now i'm slightly panicking about my hair. My dreads are nice and straight but at the ends, it's very loopy and chunky. normal?
Thanks, Annie

Hi missyannie. I don't have any solution to the white hair ends, but I can tell you that I have them too. I'm guessing you have dark hair? Dreads contain shed hair, so the root ends are probably normal. Very light conditioning with coconut oil or aloe seems to help a bit, but be very careful. It's easy to use too much, then you will be dealing with residue issues. As for the chunky ends, that is normal. I just decided to trim them off as my dreads we're just mature and long enough to handle it. At two years you should be able to do the same if you wish.

I get 'em where the ends stick out of the side of a dread. They're not all over the place just in certain dreads and in certain places on those dreads.

You know, I just thought about this again. I use to get these white hair ends more when I smoked cigs. Especially in the front. I think because the lighter would and cig would heat the ends enough to melt but not burn. Although, I've burned a few lighting other items in front of my face...hehe...

I haven't noticed anything like that in mine but then my hair is an unnatural colour...

To answer Kate, I noticed it went away when I dyed my hair black (until the dye came out, of course) so that's probably why Kezi hasn't noticed any either.
