Dying dreads?? Any advice?

I've been toying with the idea of dying my dreads. I would be doing it myself. I have not dyed my hair in almost 2 years. Is there any tips/tricks anyone has? How about the nuisance of rootgrowth/upkeep? I havent sided with a color..currently have a mix of super light blonde all the way to black from my last dye. It would be blonde (light), burgundy, or black. (But of course thats subject to change on a whim..im good at that) I am only just creeping up on three months dreaded so I am also wondering what effect it may have on them?

Really any input would be appreciated. I am also scrounging the internet for good before/after photos or after some root growth photos.. That sort of thing. Feel free to advise me with anything you've got. Positive or negative. Thanks !

I only dyed my tips, so I cant answer the root question but I have two pieces of advice... if you bleach, just bleach the outside, dont massage the bleach in your hair. Some bleach will get sucked up, you cant control that but try not to. And the second piece of advice is rinse rinse rinse and rinse again. I thought I got all the bleach out of my hair but I went to bed and woke up with bleach all over my pillow. Really fried my tips. Hope that helps. Im sure others will chime in...

Definitely wont be bleaching. Just using a dye.. Even though i have many colors throughout. I dont mind variation.. So plan to just dye it all.
