Just do it. It takes blooming ages for them to turn into 'proper dreads', so go for it. The hair do is looking great either way. Looking great.

this looks like it will be an interesting set with the way your hair is cut. I like...can't wait to see the progress!

it's a tough process when your hair is so short. my last set started at about that length or shorter but I did a patience route.
One thing you can do that may help is rubber band them when you wash. JUST MAKE SURE NOT TO LEAVE THE BANDS IN AFTER. When I started to notice sections in my last set I would do this then once the hair was dry-ish I would take them out.
also diluted dish soap is great.

Right now my hair on the back of my head is too short to dread. I plan to continue to shave my side cuts. But I'm trying to decide if I should grow out my hair in the back or continue to cut it short.

wells DILUTED dishsoap, eh? Uh...I only have the like 2x stronger type and I still used itdirectly lol it seemed fine even with my hesitation for months. It seems to help with the frizzing process?? It seems, although it could also just be time. Still do not like it on my hands, but I don't intend to make it a regular thing...or soak in it again haha wow! oh yeah, also like the rubber band idea! @miranda yay for uniqueness! I dont really have anything productive to add, so will just say hey and best wishes! ...and just be careful your birdies don't eat your dreads lol ok enough silliness.

Another short update. A brief explanation why the number ten seems to be bad luck for my baby dreads.

Keep it going!!! Don't get discouraged if/when you have to tighten up a few/all from the first batch. Eventually they get the hint and start sticking together!

You know you're doing T&R right when they're sticking out in all directions!

You know you're doing T&R right when they're sticking out in all directions! Good. Some are definitely better than others. I have a lot of loose hair right now, but I know that is to be expected. I took one out last night because it was sticking straight out and it really had no place to go.i couldn't decide what direction I would train it to go. But it lined up perfectly with the hair I intentionally left loose. So the left side of my head has a band of loose hair reaching from back to front. I think it looks good.

Yeah...it's good!! The times I T&R'd, they would stick straight up or whatever angle I started 'em at. They would remain that way for a couple of weeks until they loosened up a bit or grew out. My hair is coarse and thick so woven together it's stiffens up immediately. There would be some I would have to "re-tighten" but once they grab a hold, then I can let 'em go and do their thing.
