Just registered here moments ago. I started with neglect dreadlocks as of yesterday (long, long, ago lol) . My hair is quite thick, but on the straight side, I am of (east) Indian descent. I started getting undercut(s) last summer. But I have grown out the undercut, which went all the way to the top of my hairline. Haven't cut it since January , it is around 3 inches out now. I've lived out in India since 2014, environment in this mountain town I am in lends well to locking hair. The hills I am in surround a lake, and several+ other lakes higher up in the mountains (Himalayas). Summer time here monsoons start, and my hair turns into a brillo pad, usually I lose a lot of length . It will be interesting to see how things progress then, and how my undercut grows out into the rest. Since I've stopped maintaining it, nothing more then tangles have occurred, which seem to naturally untangle my the end of the day. Last month I was traveling by jeep to Nepal. It was about week long journey, during which it took immense effort to yank apart my hair (due to the wind from having the windows down), and still it was deeply tangled. I just came to the final decision this week to start the neglect, rather than wait until my undercut grows out. Anyway, here are a couple pics , i will post more when there is steady progress Attachment DeletedToday 5/16. 17 Days in. Hair is trying to eat other hair. It is all twisted up but I don't think it is knotted.

Hi, my natural dreads took ages to form. I've seen some folk with Indian type hair dread really well though. Two I think of had massive natural locks. They were on another forum, unfortunately they chopped them off after a few years just as they were getting amazing. Be great to see your development. Welcome.

I have no intention of cutting them at all. I've seen a handful of Indian locks on the net . Asides from sadhus , I've only seen one in person . Indian dude visiting here from France. His dreads must have been down to his ankles , judging by how much he had wrapped around his head . My hair is thick , I hope I have thick locks as well . Definitely do not want thin ones :-)

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

Yeah I saw your timeline thread, just a couple weeks before me. Any tips? keep it clean and chill Windows down and live. First few days my hair was changing a lot. One day it seemed like progress, then it would all be straight and managable the next. I realized it was slightly oily, so I sprayed it with salt water today. It is different for sure today, more tangled and a few inches shorter
