I've got about 9 now and they are a week old. The plan is the whole head but my arms are sore. So far when it's down you really can't tell they are there and only I notice the difference in texture since I switched shampoos. So far, so good.

Looks good. Are you T&R, one looks a bit braided? Keep the hair you grab very random between twists and yanks. You are building a framework for crazy things to happen. Fuzzy length of a million knots is good. Your time will be worth it over the larger time of things. Cool

Yeh, I didn't braid any of them and the more I do the better they are getting. I'm a bit OCD so if I know me, I'll go redo the ones that aren't perfect... Is there such a thing as perfect dreads?!? I think that will be the hardest thing for me is to let go and let them do their thing.. Can a control freak handle dreads?! It's like I'm a scientific experiment!! We shall see and thank you for the encouragement! james,

You have this point to make that 'start point' great. Then you have to just let go for good and it'll all go mad and finally come together again. Oh no!!!!

Just forget that you have them and they will be dreads before you know it

This is so awesome!! I have partial dreads. Not really intending to do more, especially since I hacked off about 6inches of my hair just today. but I have started, over the last few weeks, the rest of the bottom ones. So with the 6 from before, I have just added 5 more. They are more like dreadlings though, so might be combining them or adding hair to them later, but we will see. but the second cool thing is that we are pretty much on the same timeline now!!! So it will be very interesting to see...well, see your progress. I might never have pics of these dreads until they grow out,...so like never (or a year or more from now. Ha!) I am extremely camera shy. Omg, james! Lol I do agree though that one looks sortof braided. But yeah I am sortof OCD aboutmine too. Sortof. Because to some degree, you just have to do what is natural, and no one has a perfectly symmetrical head of hair, and even that I still chose to off center a few and put two on one side and one on the other. So that it altogetherrandom...but I guess the ocd is with my new ones, and I might combine one of those into an exsisting dread to make itmore even...or idk. We will just see! yep yep, this is going to be fun! I really hope you enjoy your locks and enjoy this forum! edit: oh yes, and my arms would kill me too! I just asked ...was it ophoeb? Or ...anywho, to come finish mine

Welcome! Yeah, I'm lucky that both sets of dreads I've had were started at 3-4 inches long, so I didn't hace to break my arms off to put them in, myself. XD

I had about 7 random dreads 2 years ago. It was hard to keep them separate and since my undreaded hair needed different products to look good, it was too complicated and my commitment issues forced me to brush them out. I just recently got all the dread damage cut out but it took 2 years of regular hair cuts to get it back healthy, my hairdresser hasn't seen me yet but I am sure she's gonna yank a dread or two, mostly cause I was a loyal customer and the length of my hair was great income for her. Lol! My hair is pretty long, without dreads its to the small of my back. @vacantalleyways, I'd love to see pictures of yours, especially since ours are the same age and the photo progression I think will be helpful to keep focused when it gets frustrating. Dreadlocktruth, thanks for the encouragement, your locs are lovely!!!

Welcome to the site and happy knotting!!! I know a few people have taken a few weeks sometimes to start things off because of their poor arms! You'll get there!!! Initially I had a picture in my head of having perfectly smooth dreads. Now I embrace every weird twist and turn and lump... Because the texture shows your individuality and tells a story

danzia, thank ya my friend! There are many reasons I have started this adventure, as it has been 9 years in the making. Rather it was outside forces saying it was a bad idea or insecure boyfriends that didn't like the random attention of strangers asking questions but it feels like I'm in a good place to just let it go wild. I'm ready to test my patience and thicken my skin to comments and looks. I am looking forward to pushing myself out of my comfort zone and not being able to have instant gratification will be good for me.. I'm ready or lumps and bumps!!! Positive love and locs your way!!

The easiest way to dread is to let it go. The hardest way to dread is to let it go.

Looks good so far! I figure when our arms get sore from dreading, it's the universe's way of teaching pain and patience...essential for growing dreads...hehe. Enjoy the journey!!

2 weeks ago I started these little babes. I am almost completely done, maybe 6 more to go. It's a crappy pic of me since I just woke up but the point is my hair not my face, eh? Took them out in public for their first outing and then fishing on the pier. They were well behaved for the most part. I'm most surprised at the volume of them, I can barely get a hair band to wrap twice.
