Leave the dreads alone!!! Stop crocheting excessively and obsessively. Stop palmrolling. My goodness! Some say weekly, I was doing this multiple times a day!!! Do not do this!

crocheting too excessively can cause huge damages and breakages indeed...

Dish soap is your only hope in New Mexico water, and to chill out about loose hair.

I'm at month 10 on my first set.....so I'm still new at this but.....
As a 43 year old teacher, I was terrified my employer would be upset with them (I knew they were going to be a hot mess for months) or that maybe a parent was going to think I looked unprofessional, so I had them covered all the time at work and was just generally nervous. But my Head of School, who I adore, didn't care at ALL and SO many parents would say to me during carpool "Are you doing dreads? I ALWAYS wanted to do that, that is so cool!" They would say they never tried it because they thought they were too old.....and now I point out I'm older than they are, so why not? The kids LOVE them and always compliment me on my beads and think it's hysterical to stick pencils in my hair and watch them stay in place (our record: 23.) At month one I wish I had not worried so much!

Oh man, I became the QUEEN of head scarves and head wraps. My hair isn't super long, so I'd put one on and all you could see of my baby dreads were the wispy ends sticking out the back. It took a while for people to catch on. I think for a while they thought I was just having a series of I-need-to-wash-my-hair-days. Finally, though, I was at a parent coffee with about 5 parents who know me well and, bless his heart, my 72 year old boss. One of the parents suddenly said "hey, what's with all the scarves lately?" And I was stuck. I was SURE if I told the truth my boss was going to say he hated the idea.....but I had started over the summer and was 4 months in and DIDN'T want to go back now! So I mumbled "Uh, I'm working on dreadlocks. My hair is going to look awful for at least a year, I think." Everyone in the room stopped talking and went, "WHAT?" (I live in a rather conservative rural area, so I thought I was sunk.) But then they all started asking how you did it and if I washed my hair and were very curious. My boss walked over and said, "Let me see!" I reluctantly pulled off the headscarf and he started touching my hair and laughing. He said, "It feels like you put your head through a rug shampooer!" Then he said "To each his own.....I don't care about that. I can't believe you thought I'd care about that!" I was SO relieved!

Um, I have a question, not really related to the quote above, but since you dont have a timeline...anyway, I was wondering, how long was your hair before dreading? Did it shrink a lot or at all yet? (You wrote 10 months somewhere, so i asume shrinkage stage is done??) Btw, looks really cute!
