Bunch of great answers! It's also possible that you may not be using enough shampoo. I work my dreads until I get suds all the way down to the tips and thoroughly within each dread. Takes three or four squirts from the bottle to get them all.

I'm the one that had the smell/towel issue! It definitely got resolved after I stopped using those towels and started drying with a t-shirt. My apartment complex's washer doesn't seem to get my towels 100% clean, yuck. Bought new towels and I'm going to a laundry mat now, but still drying with t-shirts lol. And heeey, gingerdreadman I believe you're on my Instagram!

I will def try the towel thing.

Oh yes, mine had green spots near the roots, ew. Oh damn! And you cleared them up without cutting them off? Thank god yes! I just gave it a good wash with vinegar as soon as I noticed it was getting moldy and It was gone.

gingerdreadman, any difference now? I haven't had issues myself (and hope I don't) but well, could it be the blow dryer? (didn't you say you use this?) sometimes that will smell. just a thought. Again, I hope I don't get this issue, but if I do, it'd be nice to know that there's a solution.

If I do it is for a limited amount of time.

Do you cover your dreads with hats alot? if that hat is 100% wool its actually anti bacterial, but fake materials like acrylic and polyester are no good IMO. Also if the hat is cotton and it gets wet it takes forever to dry compared to wool.

Like I said mine only has an odd smell while wet. It goes away as soon as it dries. acidburn I really dont wear hats too much. I have a wool one i often wear to help tame down some frizz but the wool really makes my face itch. I have a few acrylic I have worn time to time but it is starting to get warm.

gingerdreadman, had an odd thought... maybe it's something you are eating or not eating. Please don't take this the wrong way but if my dog doesn't get the right amount of probiotics she smells when she gets wet, but the smell usually goes away once she's dry.

Maybe a diluted ACV and tea tree rinse after shampooing but before drying? Wring as much water as possible out of your dreads, squirt on about 1/4-1/6 ACV to cold water with some tea tree, squish into your dreads, then dry. When the smell is gone you can dilute further. Helps with the itches too!

Coming back to that, in my case it was wrapping a towel after washing, hope You'll eliminate it as well
